Mega Drive games suited for a six year old

My nephew's birthday is in a few months and I'm planning to give him my old Mega Drive (PAL, so no US or JP recommandations pls) with a few games.

As he's not in school yet and therefore not fluent in reading, text-heavy games like RPGs aren't a good idea for the start.
The games shouldn't be too brutal or gritty either of course and, although not a must, the games should have a multiplayer mode, cause then he could play with friends (social aspect shouldn't come short).
At last they shouldn't be too expensive (like Gunstar Heroes).

I already have Virtua Racing and Sonic 2 in mind, but what else could be a good idea?

Micro Machines for multiplayer madness and definitely co-sign Sensible Soccer

And no FIFA! Don't want this impressionable mind turned towards EA Sports games!

Yeah, I've to take care of that ^^

But thx Superfamifreak and TEoI for the mention of Sensible Soccer, I totally forgot about it (silly me).

@eastyy: Never heard of that oO

Yeah, that would fit, though it smells a little too disney for me, I'd rather love to show him something he doesn't see everyday, like the wonders of japanise animation, but I do remember Aladin being one of the best platformers for the system, so I'll look into that.
Does anyone of those by chance offer a multiplayer option?

Toe Jam & Earl is good fun in co-op, I seem to remember. Another mention for Aladdin, to be fair it's more Arabian Nights than Disney presentation

                      James Pond!

How about some platformers like Bubsy the Bobcat. You can get the Dizzy games for it, which may help his problem solving skills. I had a double kart back in the day with Dizzy and Cosmic Spacehead, which I remember playing a lot.

The Mega Games compilations are cheap and have classic games on. So getting some of those would be a great start as well.

Sonic 2 should be a buy, great 2 player fun.

You can also get Gunstar on the classics collection for a bit less I think.
