SF2 Turbo for me. I despise DeeJay and T.Hawk so cannot enjoy SF2X

I really like "Super SF2" also, plain super, I know its bugged to hell and the balance is off, but I'm there for the one player man, I know it doesn't have the supers , but the tick damage on those was stupid anyway. It was the first SF2 to be on CPS2 and at the time it looked breathtaking, still does, plus I like the new voices. *squeeky shoryuken*

great game, in fact I might have to pick it up

For me, the pick of the SF2 series is probably gonna be between SF2 Turbo & Super SF2 X/Turbo. Like most others, I completely rinsed SF2 Turbo on the SNES/SFC with my mates, probably moreso than the others as by this time SF2:TWW & SF2:CE had been rinsed in the arcades. Super SF2 X/Turbo is the ultimate test for true SF2 fans as the coin-op was/is (iirc) notoriously difficult, especially that epic end-of-game battle with Akuma for the first time.

I partly agree, though I would personally exclude Cammy from that. T. Hawk & DeeJay are gash and I've always found Fei-Long to be very bland, if I'm honest.

The Alpha/Zero series is a bit tougher to judge, because each one really was significantly better than the last one. Alpha/Zero is very special to me as I pumped countless money into it as a schoolkid and I can recall seeing the Ryu & Ken vs Bison Dramatic Battle mode for the first time and being awestruck by it, Alpha/Zero 2 is an awesome Capcom fanboy tribute imo (Ken's Stage with all the past Capcom characters and Guy's stage recreating Metro City with nearly all of the Final Fight characters!) and Alpha/Zero 3 is the definitive pick of the bunch in terms of offering the player so many diverse fighting options, fighting mechanics and nuances.

alpha 3 is technically the best alpha, I just don't enjoy it very much, a friend owns it on cps2 and got rid of ssf2x I found most of the alpha 3 chars gash, that girl in the red dress, and the wrestler woman with the funny ears. hell I don't even know their names and consider myself a pretty big SF2 fan.

world warrior is still playable! I'd love to get it on jamma one day just to exploit all the bugs again.

I used to really like Alpha 3 a lot - the character rooster, music and backrounds are excellent. However, I ended up disliking it when I discovered just how broken that game is. I hate the fact:

              A) You can air recover from just about anything like sweeps, throws, specials (like dragon punches!) and even super combos!

              B) V ISM is far too dominant in the game and does far too much damage. Crouch canceling anyone?

              C) There are far too many dodgy hit boxes and cross ups seem to randomly hit you.

              D) The Alpha Counter does no damage and depletes your guard meter at the same time.

I've been playing a lot of Super Street Fighter 2 & 2x on the Saturn recently and been really enjoying it.

The difficult seems just right and it seems to be playing like a dream.

How is the saturn version regarding with the SF Buffs?

                    They're not exactly great ports.

Personal favorite is street fighter 2 world warriors, then maybe alpha 2, then hyper street fighter 2, and the champion edition hacks with loads of fireballs.

Never did get into alpha 3 or 3rd strike, the bouncing and parrying isn't my thing.

For me it's SF2: CE all the way. I felt that the new moves in Turbo/HF unbalanced the gameplay even more by giving powerful characters such as Ryu/Ken and Chun-Li extra moves while adding nothing to wanky characters such as Zangief and E-Honda. I second the guy that said he liked the PCE version, which is awesome with a couple of Avenue pads.

I did not like SSF2 so much as the new characters were **** and the music even ****tier but hey, I can see why people like it as it looks awesome and the Super moves give it that modern touch.

As for the Alpha/Zero series, again not much of a fan as I prefer a purist fighter. So for me, out of the later SFs, SF3: 3rd Strike wins hands down.

My favourite spin-off is probably Capcom vs SNK. I preferred the first as I felt that the the four-button set-up made the game more balanced; in the sequel, the SNK characters were practically useless. It also had much better graphics, at least the DC version did.

As much as I love the SF series (and I really do!) I feel that Garou: MotW is the greatest 2D fighter ever though.

Yep, how someone can say it's technically the best Alpha is beyond me. I love the fact that it has so many characters, especially some of my SF2 faves and Cody, but the game sometimes feels held together by string.

Even on the most basic level, I think the ISMs were too much. It makes it so people aren't playing by the same rules and I think trying to get that many characters to work across several play systems was just too ambitious.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - I was never any good at overcoming fireball spamming shoto's and turtling Guile's on SFII and I pretty much left the series. I know's there's ways around those but I lacked the patience or the information to get round them.

3rd Strike was the next SF I played and when I discovered you could overcome these infuriating bugbears with parrys and effectively ruin people who relied on them inssessantly.

Renewed my faith and an increased devotion to the game to the point where I wanted to understand every nuance of the system.

I built a shrine to it.
