Donpachi Vs Dodonpachi...

Which one is bestest??

Having just read Stroppy's thread about RSG & everyone mentioning the Donpachi games as being amoung the best shooters ever you've peaked my interest.

I've got Dodonpachi DOJ on the PS2 & have to admit it is freaking awesome & apart from Espgaluda is probably the best shooter I own so think it's time I added the originals to the party

Just wondered which I should get first??

With the current Ebay prices I cant afford both at once so should it be Dodonpachi or just plain old Donpachi?

Oh they'll be the Saturn versions as well

Donpachi is the best out of the two. You can accumulate a lot of power ups in DDP and it makes things kind of messy on screen and affects the gameplay more than it should be allowed to.
The Saturn ports are really arcade perfect even down to the scratchy speech samples.
The PS versions have all but eliminated the slowdown and the aforementioned sound has been cleaned up.

I'd say go for dodonpachi. Have the 3 donpachi games myself even though i suck at them. Dodonpachi has a much nicer soundtrack and is more manic/modern than the first game which to me seems a little dated. It's still a good game, just outdone by dodonpachi which to me improves on every aspect of the original.

Better in terms of color palette yes, but beware that on the PSX you couldn't choose a different ship when in TATE mode (probably due to the PSX's weak RAM).

I believe that the saturn prices have been lowered lately, and the saturn Pachi's were already much cheaper than the PS versions.

DoDonpachi for me! The first Donpachi on the Saturn has some really cool screen configs plus a free config that allows you to make the screen size anything you want it to be. However I do feel that the original Donpachi is dated. DoDonpachi on the other hand still kicks arse plus has the much better soundtrack that really gets you in to the action.

Think I'll go for Donpachi to begin with as it's a tad cheaper & means I might still be able to buy some of the other games I have listed in my Wanted thread as well should they come up at all.

Donpach and Dodonpachi PSX -> converted to PSP format are truly beautiful.

I only owned one - Dodonpachi but I really did not enjoy it - just too much over the top firepower. Soukerengetai still rules supreme for me on the Saturn with Layer Section my next favourite. Make sure you have Souky though...

Both are also playable at full speed on the GP2X.

I have both Souky & Layer Section but not too many other Saturn Shooters so trying now to bolster my collection slightly & decided I should start with one of these two seeing as I enjoy their PS2 Cousin

I love both games, Donpachi is a fine game and the one I would get first.

Battle Garegga is my personal favorite on the Saturn.
