My brother has a Sony trinitron CRT, which must be around 21". It really is great. I'm going to try and steal it when he switches over to a larger LCD screen.

It's actually a wire that holds the aperture grille in place, and it is present on all Trinitron screens.

I remember that now - doesn't it drive you mad though having that distracting line right across the display?

It isn't that noticeable on the ones I've had, although they've all been 21" and below.

What's this thing like? Thinking of a portable for the bedroom for playing some DC on via RGB.

Good, but the KV14CT1U is better. Infact it's the best 14" Sony CRT you can get.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

Looks a bit old, but it'll do the job. I don't think this is a NICAM or dual mono set though, so you won't get stereo audio.
The good thing about 14" TV's is that they don't normally get as much use as larger sets, so they're usually quite reliable.

I'm in new rush and I would much prefer a newer model with a flat tube.

Does the KV14CT1U have NICAM? The only thing about portables I don't like is that they're mono...

It does I think yes, and a flat tube. It was the last CRT Sony manufactured. Amazingly, I have a mint boxed one for sale with less than 3 weeks useage from new /<superplug>

This basic spec says mono, but it also says it has two speakers. If this is the case then it's a dual mono set, and it's quite likely that it will work in stereo with devices connected via SCART.
Another tell-tale giveaway is three RCA phono sockets.

Ive noticed that most ppl go for 14 or 21" sets.. whats the deal with that?

Is 25" considered too big, or inferior in anyway?

                        Im referring to trinitrons..

From experience 25" upwards the picture quality degrades slightly. For example play SF Zero on a 25" and look at the energy bars once some life has been lost, the red will have some kind of transparency effect. You won't see this on 21" and below.

I have a PS2 with 21" Trinitron via RGB Scart set-up in my games room. I'm not sure it can bet bettered.

Just get some cables made for all your consoles that can output L+R audio to external speakers.
The seller 'upgraded' to LCD?!? Clearly not a retro fan like us, then!

Judging by the reflection in the TV, it's a woman. Yes, probably not a retro fan then
