Dull was a bit harsh I guess. I've played all the way through arcade mode a couple of times and it was good, just seems old fashioned now we have flashy moves!

Played a few hours of Winning Eleven 7 International today compliments of nakamura. I've missed this game.

Final Fantasy Tactics... seems like utter dross now after Tactics Ogre.

Isn't it the same guy? Maybe you should give FFT Advance a go? Or any of the Ogre Battle games. I've got Person of Lordly Calibre waiting in the post.

You also might want to look into this high resolution texture pack.

              Thanks for the extra info.

I've actually been to specialist TR forums/sites (Tombraider forums, Tombraider Chronicles, Stella's, TR Hub etc ) and have found or been getting similar advice. Trying to use the various recommended installers (available to me) both the game itself and even the simplest, easiest allegedly noob friendly TR Advanced Installer v.1.5 solution seems to hate my laptop.

Just running the game disc forces the separate larger VGA connected 19" monitor I use into standy mode until I exit the attempted install. On exiting to the desktop, which isn't always easy, I then always end up with a completely garbled screen and have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot.

Twice I've had to use pre-install attempt restore points because I've had some funny things occuring after rebooting, including on the first occasion my anti-virus not just switching off but reported as not being found! That's despite the firewall and anti-malware in the same security package apparently working perfectly.

Discs (TR and TR Unfinished Business) are genuine, very clean Premier Collection versions and all the installers and other essential software etc comes from the recommended places.

I'm getting a bit frustrated TBH.

Got myself a new Sony Trinitron 21" CRT and so have had the Saturn, the PS1 and the DC hooked up to run it through its paces - certainly much better than the old Toshiba I had, particularly the stereo sound. The basslines on Super Street Fighter II X sounded sweet! Also finally got around to player Street Fighter EX plus α on PS1. It was actually a lot better than I was expecting, though Vega was being a bitch in the last round. The music from Shinji Hosoe is brilliant too - some lovely jazz funk/fusion tracks in there.

Also had the Dreamcast out for the first time in ages - played a couple of different routes through Cosmic Smash and had a quick blast on Soul Calibur, neither of which seem to have lost anything in the years since their release. I'm always hopeful for a HD remix of Cosmic Smash for XBLA...

The missus said to chuck an old LCD out as the built in dvd player had broken, but instead I have removed the stand and had it on its side for some vert shmups. Layer Section was better for the shift, the graphics and the music are both really good. I always seem to run out of credits by the end of stage 3/4. Also had a quick play through The Game Paradise, which is the only other Saturn vert shmup I have. The rotation didn't seem to make as much of an improvement than with Layer Section. The games initial charm has worn off for me slightly now too and the frequency in which you die has started to grate. Only tried the Saturn so far but hoping to try a few vert DC classics in VGA mode soon!!

Also had the PSP out again after a long stint in the drawer. I dug it out to play Gradius Galaxies on the GBA Emulator but I really didn't get on with it - the PSP d-pad was not precise enough for such fine movements. I did have a good run through Double Dragon Advance though which seems like a pretty solid little brawler. Mostly on the GBA emu I have been playing Guru Logic Champ - heard lots of praise for it but never checked it out until now, very good it is too.

Oh and I finally 'get' Legend of the Mystical Ninja now - played it a few times when I was at school but never got into it - always found it too tough and weird. But I spent a couple of hours with it on the PSP emulator and now I understand that you need to grind away fighting the locals, save up your cash and buy plenty of items before heading out to face the boss. And play some minigames too

Quick retro question, can anyone tell me if a 'super players' snes console is any good, I take it it's not official from Nintento, but I've recently been looking for a SNES and this is brand new and fairly cheap.

As I posted in the recent purchase thread, I have just bought one from the same place but I did it through www.consolegoods.co.uk. Anyway, great so far plays games from any region and also games with fancy chips like the Super FX chip used in starfox. Only thing is its something like 99.9% compatible with games I know some of the games from the latter of the sness life may not work, also super mario rpg only certain revisions of the cart will work. Overall its decent for the money although I dont think official pads work on it might of just been the one i tested.

How do the unofficial pad's feel like that it comes with? As good as the original, or does it feel cheap/different to the proper nintendo snes pads in any way?

Nah they are as close to the original as you can get, no complaints other than they are a little difficult to plug in the first time but nothing that really impedes play.

Glad you're enjoying Layer Section acidbearboy, it was always one of my favourite shooters and one Saturn game I really wish I still had.

I've been playing Real Bout Fatal Fury on MVS. It's not one of the highest rated Fatal Fury's out there but I'm loving it. It seems like a real classic SNK arcade games and great fun to play.

Trying to build up my Dreamcast collection and have purchased 18-Wheeler,Quake III Arena and Sega Rally 2 Championship.
I had never played SR2C at all back in the day and was quite excited until i actually had a go,man what a dissapointment.

Super Mario Sunshine! and I'm loving it. 40 odd Star Shines nabbed and around 80 blue coins.
Done some truly horrible underwater levels which I'm glad are over as they controlled like ****. Also finished off some tricky warp levels (where Mario loses FLUDD) which were fun and frustrating at the same time!

Some of the bits without FLUDD are infuriating, I think some of them I've never been able to do (at least, not the red coin bits)
