I sold off almost my entire AES collection (I still have Windjammers somewhere...) including Garou: MoTW, Pulstar and Metal Slug 3. I've also sold most of my Saturn collection including some of the rarest titles, although I still can't let go of RSG and Stellar Assault SS. My PCE and CD-ROM2 unit are packed away at my parents' house along with a stackful of CDs and HuCards and I'd sell it all in an instant if I could be bothered. I also have two Amiga A4000s, one with a Picasso IV and a Cyberstorm '060 accelerator, also waiting to be sold.

Do I regret selling all this stuff or wanting to sell it? Not at all. I've collected games all my life and there comes a point when one asks themself what they're going to do with all this ****?!? I mean, I had/still have so many games and consoles that I'll never get around to playing so what's the point in keeping them? I became sick of all this materialistic baggage I had to haul around with me every time I moved somewhere, and finding storage space for a load of crap I didn't have the time to play.

I'm now uber-content with just a Multimega, a modded SNES and a handful of games for each.

I never sell or trade anything. I can't. I did try a couple of times in my youth, but it made me unhappy. I still miss my first Atari 520 ST, the very first computer I ever owned - I have another one now, but it's not quite the same thing. The first one was given to me brand new, it had sentimental value. Which I didn't understand until it was too late. I can (and do) happily get rid of extra copies of games, however, if I end up with any.

It's the same thing with music. Every LP and CD I own are somehow special, I wouldn't want to lose any of them.

But except for games and records (and to a certain extent, books and films), I'm not particularly sentimental about material things.

I've sold and bought back a few collections

Neo Geo is the most i've done this with

I have a Neo since the UK release of Samurai Shodown AES mostly on with a little off

had and bought Neo CD collections twice now, with the latest being the best i've owned and definately the cheapest - which is a bonus

when i was alot younger and in debt alot of the time i used to buy and sell my stuff all the time just to pay bills, very much the cash converters generation

now that i'm married and settled down with all debts paid - i dont really have to sell the stuff and just horde it, i do however play my games and with the Neo Geo i generally focused on specific games and i never played others (Waku Waku for example) which is a shame as now i've played it on the PS2 and Saturn its a really decent game

This I totally understand. I used to be a chronic hoarder with loads of JPN MD, SFC, Saturn and PC Engine games, it was like an addiction. Recently I came to the above very conclusion and sold all those collections off as I never played any of them (well I still have a few boxed SFC games around if anyone is interested in them ) Subsequentely I haven't felt any loss for any of them, they just took up space. Nowadays I don't let videogames rule me, I just play the odd one or two games that take my fancy (although I do have a real crush on Cave games, heh)

                NeoGeo.

I took my JPN Neogeo home system and 6 carts to CEX and traded in for a UK playstation and Tekken back in 96 or when ever it came out, the PS was ?250 if I remember correctly.

I remember Ash in CEX saying you are crazy and of course he was right.

I hope none of the games are worth much now, I've heard stories of people selling Euro Ultimate 11's for < £100 and realising they are worth over £3,000 now.

I have flutterings sometimes where i think man i wish a i kept such and such but it usually passes pretty quick. I know aswell if bought em back i'd only get bored of em and sell em again....

I find Emulators are a great cure because you can pine to own a game again and then play it on an emu for 20 mins and think "yeah i won't be buying that".

I had to sell most of my collection recently to pay debts. I had a load of UK and import DC stuff, loads of Jap Saturn games, N64, 32X, Mega Drive, Mega CD, Jaguar, Neo Geo Pocket Color and some PS1 stuff. I got rid of pretty much all of it and now the only retro suff I have is a modest collection of games for the Mega Drive, Mega CD and Saturn.

Like a couple of posters have said above, I don't regret it at all. I basically had a stack of rare and expensive games that I never played and the only time I ever took them off the shelf was when I moved house. There were a few games that were really hard to part with (Jap Virtua Racer on the 32X and Bangai-O on the N64 were probably the hardest) but I also had a huge ammount of rubbish. Now I've got a slimmed down collection of gems that I actually play, I've paid off my debts and I'm free from my addiction to buying games just to look good on a dusty shelf.

My greatest memory of the Mega Drive is playing Castle of Illusion for the first time. Also, I bought COI with Wrestle War, which also has good memories attached to it. Then I got Sonic1, which is easily my favourite MD game. I still play it and feel amazement at how perfect it is.

I personally have no regrets about selling games. I've never had anything of amazing value. I do regret buying a lot of the stuff I have. I used to go through phases where I would buy things just to have something to do.
