I don't care about having a war of words. All those series' don't do anything for me. All of them do what they do well, but.. I find them extremely tiresome.

Even DevilMayCry, which I should like, doesn't get me excited. It's great for combo lovers, but.. I'd much rather play a 2D hack'n'slash.

I can't think of any modern gaming series I enjoy. Don't like Halo, Gears of War etc.. There is something cold about them. I've bought them, but never felt any love for them.

MetalGear2 did impress me a bit at the time, but.. I don't like the series. I actually prefer the NES editions - and wouldn't mind playing them if I was forced to.

Also you had the other levels which mixed up the gameplay styles later in the game.
You are right, Skull, I take back what I said. It's not simplistic. Yes.. it's a scrolling fighter, but.. still has a range of moves and gameplay devices. There's even a reasonably fun driving section. A bona fide SNES classic.

StreetsOfRage2 is also a great game. I love the 2D scrolling fighting genre.

      Batman:the movie for the Amiga.
That was an amazing game for that time, especially the parts with the Batmobile and Batwing, they looked stunning back then !

I loved this piece from the intro ; "who are you ?" .... "I'm Batman" sample from the original movie !

I never played MG2 at the time as there was no translation and I had never even so much as seen an MSX, never mind played one. It impresses me today what Kojima achieved with such limited hardware.

Give the guy severe limitations and he delivers games I actually like. The same could be said of a lot of designers. I have a strong hatred of cut scenes, fmv, and anything else that gets in the way of the gameplay. I don't even like speech, unless it's just a quick snippet. In fact, if it's just a few samples, it can be much more memorable.

I think the main reason people go back to 8/16-bit is because the games are soooo accessible. They only demand gameplay skill; not the ability to endure non-gameplay elements without falling asleep.

Those platform levels were terrible weren't they.

I would love it if, at the end of every level of Batman Returns on the SNES you could play a driving level from Batman Returns for the Mega CD. Swapping those platform levels for the beat 'em-up levels from the SNES game would make an awesome combination.

Adventures of Batman & Robin on the SNES - awesome. I wish Hamill's Joker could have been digitised in this.

Konami's Side-Scrollers on SNES are some of my faves ever - Turtles In Time, Batman & Robin, Mystical Ninja, Super Castlevania, Sunset Riders, Contra III

How I miss Konami of old...
