    Neo Geo at 19...

    Should've been in top10 easily.

I think both N64 and Dreamcast have alot going for them...

      N64

Mario 64 - I'm personally not a fan of 3D gaming but when I first saw this game running my Jaw literally hit the floor!! it was a massive, massive jump forward in gaming with its open 3D world.
If I recall edge magazine gave it a 10/10??, as far as I'm aware thats the first game they gave a perfect score to.

Zelda Ocarina Of Time - read "top games ever polls" and this is top of a huge amount of people lists

Goldeneye - most of my younger brothers generation of gamers (mid-twenties) swear that this is the greatest game ever created, him and his mates would spend hours and hours playing the four player game.

      Dreamcast

Perfect arcade conversions of Segas Coin-ops

Still new games are being released even after Sega have long given up on the machine, if people are still developing games for it that must say something about its quality.

I could understand some of your arguments Yakumo but then there's this...

, hahaha Sorry but it's true. I really wanted to like it. Everyone was talking about it but I just couldn't get in to the game

I admire their shrewdness, but.. I don't like the Wii situation. If Nintendo had created a powerful machine - I'd have been much happier. GameCube visuals can be OK, but a lot of Wii games do look weak. Gameplay is king, but when it comes to 3D gaming.. HD power enables much nicer experiences.

            NES
            Atari 2600
            PS1
            SNES
            360

for various reasons of importance in the scope of gaming in general...
My arguments were just off the cuff, but I will stand by some of them. My top5 systems is based on which ones I like the most - not which ones made the biggest impact on gaming.

If it were the biggest impact on gaming, I'd say..

            NES
            Atari 2600
            MegaDrive
            PS1
            360

I could change that a bit. It's difficult to choose.

Dreamcast had many AAA games that were all new and original such as Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Samba De Amigo, Crazy Taxi and so on.

I loved the N64. WaveRace, Pilotwings64, Mario64, Ocarina of Time, BlastCorps, ISS64, DiddyKongRacing, Banjo&Kazooie, GoldenEye, BlastCorps, etc etc....
There were plenty of AAA, cutting-edge games for the system. Yes.. there were plenty of disgusting looking, low framerate, piles of crap, but.. the best devs created joyous experiences.

I preferred the N64 to the PS1, because I played on the N64 more. The PS1 had some great NAMCO games - and a few Japanese gems, but.. it never rocked my world in the same way Nintendo's machine did.
I played WaveRace, Pilotwings and GoldenEye for years - and loved every moment. It was quality over quantity.

The visuals in the best games were quite stunning on an NTSC machine through RGB Scart on a good TV. A lot of games were murky - but that's because the developers behind them didn't do a good job. The N64 was harder to develop for than the PS1.

You must have played the worst games for the machine - and on a Pal machine.

I'm not a fan of the Wii - and I wasn't a big fan of the GameCube. I love the SNES, like the NES, and enjoyed the N64 back in the day.

My favourite systems are the SNES & MegaDrive. You can't beat the 16-bit 2D machines. As I've said before, I don't need 3D machines, but.. admit to liking some 3D games. I could definitely live without 3D.

Too f*cking right. Throw in the NeoGeo, PC Engine and the 2D stuff on the Saturn and you've got the mother f*cking cream of gaming!!

The N64 always cops a lot of criticsm and I'm not sure why. Games like Blastdozer, Jet Force Gemini, Beetle Adventure Racing, Turok and a slew of Big N titles made it a winner for me.

Yep... that is what console heaven is made of: SNES, MegaDrive, NeoGeo, PC Engine, Saturn, MasterSystem. I'd never get tired of those machines and their best games. An eternity of gaming pleasure.

3D has always been the great pretender to the crown. It's never had a chance of ousting 2D from its throne. Well... in my mind anyway.

I've liked many 3D experiences, but at the end of the day.. my heart tells me I don't love any of them. The best 2D games never stop giving.

I loved the N64 and mentioned plenty of reasons why the machine was great. You've pointed out a few other games that were really good. The machine doesn't deserve any disrespect.

It was a succesful machine. Sony gave the impression that they destroyed the competition, but Nintendo did pretty well with the N64. The sales figures attest to that. The machine didn't attract the massive third-party support, or games library of the PS1, but.. the PS1 had a hell of a lot of crap and games that were all show and no fun.

I'd put the N64 ahead of the PS1 in my list of favourite machines. The PS1 had lots of big games such as ResidentEvil, MetalGear, FinalFantasy. I didn't like any of those franchises, which is a big reason why I didn't go crazy for the machine. The N64 had more games that I really enjoyed.

I agree, I'm not a big Playstation fan either. The PS2 was more of the same (to an extent), and I much preferred the Dreamcast and Gamecube at the time.

Number 1 is about right, the rest is all over the place.

Personally, I'd have an Amiga 500 at the top of my list though

I bought a PS2 in 2001 with GranTurismo3 & TimeSplitters - and I really enjoyed it for a while, but once I got the Xbox.. it blew me away. Then I got Live and really enjoyed playing racing games online for a good few years. The Xbox felt much more powerful and nicer to use. It simply felt more modern than the PS2. There was something about the PS2 that didn't feel right; it just didn't gel with me. I think I would have liked it more if the Xbox & GameCube didn't exist.
The Gamecube was definitely my second favourite of that generation. F-ZeroGX, MonkeyBall, BeachSpikers, SmashBros etc.. Plenty of great games that have arcade style magic. The games felt nicer than those found on the PS2.

Yep.. the Amiga500 was awesome for its time. It had every genre covered. The fun I had with the Lotus games; SuperCars2; North&South;Pinball Dreams/Fantasies;ShufflePuckCafe;Alien Breed; Battle Squadron etc....

The Amiga's best games were and still are excellent. The 1200 was a nice machine - but.. not enough to keep the brand alive.

If computers were included my list would be:

                                C64
                                Amiga 500
