I always say "SNES". I think Violet Berlin put it in my head to say "SNES" , but I'm not sure? .. although I would bet she did, because I think I just called it the Super Nintendo before hearing her cute way of saying it.

In fact.. most British people say "SNES" - so I think they watched Bad Influence ... or maybe someone else coined that way of saying it?

Americans I come across on Youtube, never say "SNES" ... it's always "Super Nintendo" ...

If I'm talking about Japanese stuff I often say "Super Famicom" , but am known to commit the sin of saying "SNES" to mean both machines.

I wonder if Mega Drive fans call that machine "M D" ??? ... I guess some do, but I always just call it by its full name. Neo Geo is usually just "Neo".

    I'm tired now.

I do actually say 'the MD' from time to time actually, though it is quite rare. I've never really thought about why I sometimes say it though...

I sometimes use the quite affectionate "Meggy".

SNES & NES as one word - much easier than saying S.N.E.S etc and sounds far less muppetish.

I agree, it rolls off the tongue better. I hate people who call the SNES the Super SNES. Isn't that like calling it the Super Super NES

Surely it would have been "Thnezz"

I never say it as Snes, but write it. I always hated the way it sounded when spoken. I blame Miss Berlin for it!

It definitely sounds cute, maybe even girly, but I don't care.. it's in my blood to say "SNES" - I can't change

What do you call a SNES in a lake? ... The loch snes monster.

Probably an old joke, but I just thought of it.

I say "8-bit Nintendo" and "SNES". I see a lot of people refer to whichever console they owned as a kid as "The Nintendo", so I usually have to do a quick guess based on their age to figure out which they mean.

It was almost always "Super Snes" at my school, with the final "s" said as a "z", Bad Influence stylee. I kid you not.

Then again, later in secondary school when home Internet usage started to take off, a lot of kids had AOL, and that was universally "Aol", said as one word, not initials. That's just as plain wrong and irritating as "Nez" and "Snez".

Used to hear "Super Famicom", mostly shortened to just "Famicom", at school around 1992, 1993-ish, incidentally. I guess those kids had read C&VG, Games-X and other similar publications which bigged-up the Super Famicom as an import console, seemingly under the impression that the console would keep that name with its European release.

Oh, and even when the Nintendo 64 was released over here in the UK, at school it was non uncommon to hear it still referred to as the Ultra 64. Go figure, as they say in Americaland.

I call the Super NES the Super NES in written form, and Super Nintendo when spoken. As it is intended.

Er, I'm pretty sure everyone saying 'Nes' and 'Snes' is pronouncing the ending as a z sound...

It's certainly always had the 'z' ending for me. Like anyone else who was a kid in the early 90s, the only time we'd hear the words 'orally' would be in the playground, or on TV, hence the massive variations.

I always felt 'Ultra 64' sounded so much cooler anyway

Makes you feel bloody old when people talk about what they called the N64 at school though, don't it Shakey? I wasn't into games when the N64 came out as I was at an age when I was finally able to drink in the pub hassle free 'cause I always looked a bit young. Oh yeah, I remember spending a year bumming around on people's floors in Brighton, just signing on and partying all week. Ah, them were the days

I've come across people that say "Super Ness".

I've always called Nintendo 64 "64". I remember ButPaul coming home with one about 3 days after launch, only to find it wouldn't run via RGB Scart. He straight traded me for my Flash Saturn with VF2 and KOF 95 losing about £400 in the process. I used to go by Gouki13 back in those days too.
                                Kept you waiting, huh?
