I came very late to the GC (bought my first one two years ago) for the reason that seems pretty evident from the lists here. There were only a very limited number of must have exclusives further reduced for me (only being honest here) to those I actually wanted to play.
My original wish list was therefore only 7 games although I have since expanded that to 16.
Anyway here's my original list plus those I've added since. The ten marked with an asterisk are my vote for the essential ones, at least to try out : -
1). Twlight Princess* - not yet played.
2). Legend of Zelda LE Collection*
3). Rogue Leader II - not an essential unless you're a Star Wars fan.
4). REMake* - definitely a must have.
5). Eternal Darkness* - superb, so also a must have.
6). Metroid Prime* - not played yet but by common consent essential.
7). Metroid Prime II* - likewise
Since added:-
8). MGS: Twin Snakes* - not strictly an exclusive but it's the best version.
9). Fire Emblem PoR* - loved it, introduced me to tactical RPGs.
10). Battalion Wars - not played it yet.
11). P.N.03 - not played it yet.
12). LoZ: Wind Waker* - not played it yet but it's controversial cartoonish styling alone makes it a must try and therefore an essential purchase.
13). Viewtiful Joe - not played it yet but I suspect it's 'Marmite' game so may not be essential for many gamers.
14). RE Zero - not played yet but by common consent not an essential.
15). F-Zero GX* - brilliant but tough racing.
16). Soul Calibur II - great game but I actually prefer the PS2 Dualshock for fighters so not really an essential or and only scrapes in as an exclusive with LInk.
BTW Killer 7 and RE4 would be on the list too but they're not an exclusives.Last edited by fallenangle; 28-06-2010, 13:08.

How you can recommend games that you've not even played as essential is beyond me.

Resident Evil 0 ( A overlooked and underrated classic)
MonkeyBall (worth it for the music and Monkey Golf alone)
Monkeyball II
Star Fox Adv ( don't get the hate, looks stunning and is a joy to play)
RE 4
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (makes one happy to pay it, what games should be all about)
Prime (almost as good as Exhumed for level design)
Star Wars RS II (Most prob my fav Star wars game, and it still looks incredible)
Sega Soccer Slam ( Ave laugh with a few mates and a couple of cans)
Zelda TWW (so charming)

I didn't personally recommend any titles I haven't played. The thread is not about your favourite games, that is just a side issue. I assumed the point was more objective ie. to list the ten most important GC games you shouldn't be without.
You don't need to have personally played it for you to know it is an essential game to have. Whether once you do play it you like, hate or are lukewarm towards it is largely irrelevant. An essential game transcends personal taste; its quality can be measured by more objective means.
Several of the asterisked games on my list I've either disliked or wouldn't personally recommend to certain other gamers but I'd still consider them essential purchases for anybody putting together their own definitive GC collection.Last edited by fallenangle; 28-06-2010, 18:28.
