I don't rate any of those you mentioned either, all my mvs have always been SS1-4, MS1-3 etc. Can't be bothered with any of it.

Really? I had that on atomiswave in my cab for a while, and played it for about 10 minutes before putting hokuto no ken back in. To me it was everything that got stale about KOF, and the final boss was a joke.
To be honest I can take or leave the rest of the games except 98, I play that a lot on GGPO. Classic.

well had the ps2 version i just loved the big combos possible and the tagging system ...thought it looked better to while not redrawn felt like the sprites were cleaned up a bit
super cancels and big combos in fighting games are what appeal to me more then say counter attacking and balance
probably why games like marvel vs capcom and killer instinct appeal to me a lot

I let 2003 sit on my shelf for ages when I had my AES without touching it, apart from an initial 5 minute spell when I had bought it. (And found it a little rubbish) When I did finally get round to giving it some extended time I thought it was excellent, especially compared to '01 & '02 which I think are pretty bad. I think my favourite is '00 though, i've never followed the crowd..................
(Must buy it on MVS now)

As far as KoF is concerned, The Orochi Saga years ('94-'98) were EASILY the golden age of the series. The series has cleary "Jumped the Shark" since, imho.
That aside, the mention of SNK personally evokes many fond and bittersweet memories of my earliest experiences of arcade gaming in the 1990s and the local arcade halls that are no longer around in my part of town.
Soccer Brawl
Super Sidekicks 2 & 3
Windjammers
Tecmo World Soccer '96
Art of Fighting trilogy
World Heroes/World Heroes 2/World Heroes Jet
Fatal Fury/Fatal Fury 2/Fatal Fury Special
Viewpoint
Aero Fighters (AKA Sonic Wings) 2 & 3
Samurai Shodown/Samurai Shodown 2
Baseball Stars 2
Waku Waku 7
Last Blade/Last Blade 2
NAM-1975
All of those titles (and many more) were games that I could experience in my local arcades at the time. Good times!
Also...am I the only who thinks that SNK vs Capcom: SvC Chaos isn't bad?

KOF 94 I never really looked into but KOF 95 was atrocious. It did contain my fave Eiji Kisaragi, but the engine was terrible. With its FK knockdowns and extreme damage it was more or less a Mortal Kombat of some sorts.
KOF 96 has the boss team and 97 has the best storyline, but when it comes to gameplay those 2 are nothing more than prototypes of KOF '98.

I really wanted to like SvC Chaos as I loved Capcom vs SNK 2 but it just seemed so bland in comparison. I'm not massively bothered by the backgrounds in fighters but they were really sterile in SvC. Gameplay was pretty bland as well. It's a shame as it could have been a great swansong for the Neo-Geo.
