Another vote for Discworld, what a horrible game, the puzzles weren't what I'd call 'challenging', more just nonsensically obscure (often just nonsense). What a trudge of a game, dull and sadistic, the only reason I found myself playing it is because it was one of the launch games on PS1 back in 1995 and I kind of fancied something adventurey. At least the sequel was better, though the 'humour' still sucked major arsehole (the 'comedy bits' in these games put me right off reading any Terry Pratchett books for many years, thank chrism I took the effort to force myself to read a couple and found them bloody entertaining).

As for Maniac Mansion, I thought it was a relatively simple point n' clicker (well, maybe compared to Discworld 1).

Out of curiosity, is Discworld Noir worth playing? It's just I got the PC version for £1 from Blockbuster several months back, never got around to installing it.

Another one that springs to mind for cheap deaths is Leisure Suite Larry (LOTLL). The most obvious one for me is when you die for flushing the toilet after your number two. After flushing a toilet most normal people would think of washing their hands next and then on with your business. The Larry game designers seemed to think that the water should fill the room, drown you and make you start again.

Yeah, it's gone from the director's cut versions as well.

I'm not sure what I'd rate as my hardest game. I found the Myst series after the first to be hard, or maybe I just didn't have the patience for them. Ripper had some pretty tough puzzles generally but had one that was simply unfair. Basically you had to arrange some stones on a grid to match the shape of a constellation IIRC. The trouble was that there were no clues as to where any of the pieces should go to help you start, no scale that could be used to figure it out, and nothing to tell you when any of the pieces were in the correct positions. As such you would end up fiddling with this puzzle for ages not knowing which pieces were in the wrong places or if you were even going along the right track. I think I used a guide in the end.

I'll also add my voice to those complaining about the Sierra games. In many it was far to easy to screw up early on without any indication that you had done so, until of course you reached an unsolvable problem late in the game. It seemed like a cheap way to extend the life of the games.

One of the police quests was awful. It started of good, all gritty, graphics were mortal kombat style, so maybe police quest 4? Anyway, it was awesome having to take forensics and draw chalk lines etc. But then you go to the killers apartment, question him, and if in that instant you didn't click on handcuffs, dead. No clues, no hints that you were gonna die, just death. I had to look up the answer. Ruined the game cos it happens again after that. And it built up such a great atmosphere!

In one of the Kings Quest there was a bird on the first island. You should give it a ring and a rose in that order, if you did it the other way around you didn't get an item that you needed in the very end of the game, you where hopelessly stuck and had to restart.

The only two point and Click adventures I have ever finished are the first Monkey Island and Sam and Max.

So to answer the question in the thread title, every other point and click game besides Sam and Max and Monkey Island

Seriously, am i the only one that thinks The Dig is the most baffling, boring and hardest point & click game ever?

It had a couple of overly tough/obscure puzzles, but I didn't find it boring. That may be in part due to the excellent soundtrack though.

Schizm 2 is ridiculously hard in places, including puzzles that need you to do maths in different number bases using alien symbols for the numbers. I filled several pages of a notebook getting through that game. Amazingly satisfying to actually finish though.

I've not played it, but apparently the first game was even harder.

So I kinda agree with this, in regards to how boring it was. It never really agreed with me, so I never got that far in. I really wanted to love it, I remember a demo/teaser for it, around the time it was released and it really made the game seem awesome. However from playing it from the start, I could never really get into it. I might have to re-play it and give it another chance.

But then they graciously replaced it with a bug which meant that if you visited Syria before Spain (or vice versa?) then you couldn't finish it and you were buggered if you didn't have a fairly early save point!!

Hehe future wars was ace, literally only one pixel on that map board was a hole & you had to get that damn flag in it. Talk about thorough searching.

I just looked up Future Wars on YouTube, it looks quite good, might have to give this a go.

So after watching a few of the videos, something I have noticed is that there is no mouse over on any interact-able elements . It seems as though one has to actually go into one of the modes before information is displayed. I can imagine that this can be a very challenging game.
