mmmonkey's example uses an American N64 - but the same can be done for the JP one no problem.

Thanks for that, I'll give that a go over the weekend.

A Japanese, RGB Modded N64 that can play English language games, that I got for free.

I can't believe they did the RGB mod and left the tabs in.

The bloke who let me have it was a work colleague who letting go of the majority of their gaming stuff, as he's going away to live in Japan for the foreseeable future and is a very hardcore Japanese gamer.

I don't think he's ever wanted to play anything other than Japanese games!

I guess it's not safe to own an N64 in Japan then?

Thing is though playing NTSC games on a PAL system via the passport would make the games forced 50hz anyway wouldnt it?

That's what I thought, but reports on the interwebs are conflicting.

I think it was more likely an issue of trying to transport nearly 30 years worth of your life over to another country, then not wanting to take the N64.

Tell me about it... Wikipedia states that there are 387 games released, but a collector I'm dealing with says 391. He has two more Japanese games than the Wiki list, which is more concrete, but the other area is concerning Beetle Adventure Racing and Michel Owen's World Soccer.

In Australia Beetle Adventure is known as HSV and features completely different vehicles, which handle differently. To me this feels like a significant enough update to class it as a different game. MO on the other hand turned into a female football game stateside with completely different graphics, statsitics, teams etc, meanign it's not just a useful name attachment.

HSV adventure racing is indeed different enough to count as a separate game to the beetle one.
