Which is the best Wonder Boy game?

Which is the best Wonder Boy game and why?

Personally, it's the first game in the arcade. My sister's never been a massive gamer, but she'd get really far on just 10p!

I think it's the most pure platformer of the bunch and it was a joy watching experts play it, going to the end of a level on a skateboard or finding the hidden bonuses and taking out the boss until he spouts a new head.

      Sound topic.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land for me, followed by Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair, which is a pretty silly game but loved it since child hood, and the PC Engine CD version music rawx.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land for me, but I haven't played any of them after that. I liked the "adventuring" aspect of it and secret doors and coins in clouds etc.

Did any of the sequels improve on Wonder Boy in Monster Land's platform adventure format?

These have all just come out on PSN (maybe 360 too, not sure).

I used to play Wonder Boy in Monster Land on my Master System, but I remember playing it loads before that on arcade in my local video shop.

A great little vid I found on YouTube. Will have to look out for that PS2 collection. The final game too.

Another vote for the arcade original, purely a nosatalgic choice. I had the C64 port when i was very young and played the hell out of it, when i first saw the arcade version at some seaside arcade i couldn't believe how amazing it looked and proceeded to spend the rest of the holiday begging for 10p's from my parents to play the game.

I also love the music on the PC Engine CD version, it's what made me buy a Duo.

Trust this one to try to be different, eh? Maybe I should of stated, "try not to stray into Hudson's realms of Adventure Island".

Did the Adventure Island series ever adopt the Monster World light RPG aspects or did it stay faithful to the original platformer?

It's a remake of Monster Land. I never owned part 2 though.

Looks more like a remake of the original. Unless this is not the one you mean?
