I picked up NBA Showdown for the Megadrive & Wing Commander IV for the PS1 while I was out and about today.

      Avert your eyes.....

I found this monstrosity in an old storage box, it belonged to an ex.

      A couple of questions:

Assuming that this is a nes / famicom clone, will it play official games?

Is anyone mad enough to pay cash money for this thing?

Having no Bare Knuckle collection in there is nothing but foolish.
The earlier Sega Ages 2500 games for the PS2 (volumes 1 to 14) were extremely poor 3D 'remakes' done by a 3D AGES. The first 14 volumes were awful, and Sega ditched the 3D AGES studio beginning with Volume 15. A Bare Knuckle remake was planned as part of these earlier games, but was abandoned when Sega changed the development approach of the series.

From Volume 15 onwards (beginning with Decathelon, Winter Heat and Virtua Athlete 2k), Sega focused on accurate and authentic Model 2 and Saturn ports rather than remakes. Games like Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally, Last Bronx, Nights, Dynamite Deka, and polished Saturn ports such as Nights, Dragon Force, and older collections such as the Space Harrier Collection and Phantasy Star Collection.

I love Bare Knuckle, but the first 14 Sega Ages 2500 games were rubbish, and the later focus on Model 2 and Saturn ports saved the series. Who wants a remake of Bare Knuckle in the vein of the ****e remakes of Outrun, Space Harrier, Golden Axe and all those earlier rubbish Sega Ages 2500 games?

Since I now own a PS2 I thought it would be good to start up a collection. now bare in mind that I know nothing about the PS2 or it's games so it's like I'm a kid again just buying **** because of the cover Anyway, I bought this set of 10 games for 1500 yen so it's no great loss. The games are all in mint condition.

          Basara 1
          Basara 2
          Basara X
          Viewtiful Joe 2
          Crimson Sea 2
          OZ
          Death by Degrees
          Spy Fiction
          and 2 Maximo games.

I know that the Maximo games are meant to be total crap. Viewtiful Joe 2 is a steaming heap of dung too because it originated on the Game Cube Only joking, that should be good. I know basara from the Wii but I have no idea about the others. I've got a set of 100 PS2 games arriving tomorrow. I wonder how many of those will be turds

Yep, 1500 yen. The 100 game set cost me 4700 yen. PS2 game sets are so cheap at the moment but I bet it's going to be full of ****.

Well, I guess those games are worth next to nothing - the ones you posted already, even in the UK.

Sengoku Basara X though, I'd happily but that from you if you don't want it anymore.

It's a pretty good fighter though so you may enjoy it.

That Spy Fiction cover is a billion times better than the PAL one.

Far from it. I enjoyed them, though they're far from groundbreaking or genre-defining.

Some of those Sega Ages games are on the Japanese PSN store for PS3 by the way, including Dynamite Deka, Phantasy Star Collection, Space Harrier Collection, etc.. Sega seems to be regularly uploading them.

Not all for me but there was an hour or so that I thought otherwise. Don't need 6 PS2 anyway.

DTL-H30002, DTL-H30101 E, DTL-H30102 and DTL-H50002 - glad I bought them all if only so I could choose the optimal one. Seems as if these were owned by Kuju Entertainment from the sticker on the DTL-H30101 E.

What can you do with them?

They are region free, play master discs and play any PS1 game, without a modchip.

Very nice machines if you just want a region free machine. Need to faff a bit with PS1 video modes though, which most modchips do automatically. My NTSC machine will boot all PS1 games to NTSC which is fine but the PAL machines will boot to PAL which isn't ideal, for my purpose at least.

Still, nice piece of curio too.
