It wasn't no, but yes the text on the screen bezel gave it away. I had been looking for a nice condition clear yellow slim for a while now but I spotted this and decided to go for it instead. They aren't much smaller than the original NGPC but it is noticable if you put them next to each other. Now to order a NeoPocket GameDrive...

Not one to blow my own trumpet but I'm pretty knowledgeable on the perfect striker / winning 11 series, and just when you think you've seen it all my eyes literally came out on stalks when I found Konami made a football game for Saturn?!?!

In my years I absolutely can't fathom how I've never seen this, but here it is, and it's great too. Lovely colourful sharp visuals, moves at a good lick (with the odd slowdown). Definitely more ISS than Pro Evo.

Yep, that's one of the better footie games on the Saturn.
Basically you have that and the later Sega ones worth playing. There's also a Tecmo one from what I remember. I need to check my collection for the title.

Yeah on that Tecmo one I'm after that think its called go go goal! Eyeing some Asmik one too looks a bit ropey but you know, gotta catch em all.

HatTrick Hero S is worth a look, though to say it follows the rules of football quite loosely would be giving it too much credit. You can tackle everyone as violently as you want providing the referee is far enough away, but if that's not enough you can just tackle the referee. You also get special moves (with a big full-screen announcement) when you can kick the ball hard enough the goalkeeper loses their shirt. And sometimes the game stops so a cat or woman stripped to her underwear can run across the pitch. Basically think football crossed with a very unpolished version of NBA Jam. We did get an earlier version of it in the arcades as Football Champ, which I remembered for years as the game I played in Manchester Airport where you could inexplicably boot the ball into cameramen and watch them fall over.

To be honest I also quite like the various iterations of Victory Goal, it's not a particularly technical or very difficult game but it isn't unpleasant to play and is carried by having one of the best soundtracks on the entire system (no joke). I had the game in my car CD changer for about a year just to play the music off it.

Fair I actually love Hat Trick Hero S, had it in the past looking to get again. Taito super cup finals is probably one of the arcades I've pumped coins i to the most in my life!

Played Worldwide soccer 98 to death when it came out, I do have various iterations of Victory GOAL, even one with Gary Lineker in it at Grampus!!

World League Soccer is another late in the Saturn life banger, superb analogue controls just had the demo at the time played Brazil vs Italy forever

I recently read an article on Football games in Edge issue, around E25 (95 or 96) and an interview with EA Canada I think it was about early Fifa. More interesting than expected.

The pace of them as well, proper shambling...holding it together

I was ordering a load of bits from China (non-game stuff like wires and USB hubs) and since I got my Game Gear out recently, thought I’d try one of the flash carts for it since they’re sub-£10. It’s a clone of the older type Krikzz one I suspect, since it doesn’t do Gunstar Heroes. Would rather buy one of his but he only does a fancy heavily-featured one now which I’m sure is very nice but beyond my needs for the price.

Anyway, it turns up and I’m looking at the slot to see if it takes a normal or microSD and there’s one already in there, which wasn’t even advertised. Boot it up and it’s a comprehensive set of GG, SMS and SG-1000 roms! They just don’t mind, do they?

I’ll be binning it (as it’ll inevitably fail) and putting my own card in. I don’t really like having a full set as in my experience it’s too hard to commit to any one game and I find you just keep playing them all a minute at a time. Not to mention the GG library has a lot of junk in it that I don’t want to scroll past every time.

Fantastic! Games were definitely better in the old days.

Ordered from ZedLabz on Friday morning and received this morning, can't argue with that. I've only given it a quick go but it seems to work great.

So excited when this arrived but my CRT TV and Famicom aren’t talking so the picture lacks colour.
