Getting my list down to 5 is going to be really tough.

Been trying to choose for the last few nights and my short-list is just getting longer the more I ponder. All of them are stone cold classics in my eyes and I need to stop thinking about which are best and move on with my life. I also need to find time to organise my vgm collection too - a real mess of folders and poorly tagged mp3's.

              Spring Valley from Nights

Thrashard in the Cave arrange version from Castlevania Chronicles

              Stickerbush Symphony from DKC2

Rainbow Road from Super Mario Kart

              Passing Breeze from Outrun

              Full short-list below.

              CHIPS
Port Town, Big Blue and Mute City from F-Zero
              Passing Breeze from Outrun
              Main Theme from Space Harrier
Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog
              Guile stage from SFII
Bloody Tears and Dracula's Theme from Castlevania IV
              Dark World from Zelda 3
              Stickerbush Symphony from DKC2
              Rocketbelt and Password from Pilotwings
Rainbow Road from Super Mario Kart

              NON-CHIPS
Dance of Gold, Dance of Pales, Wood Carving Partita from Symphony of the Night
Thrashard in the Cave (arrange) from Castlevania Chronicles
              Spring Valley from Nights
Overture and Lonely Rolling Star from Katamari Damacy
              Fulgore Theme from Killer Instinct
Lobby and Caves music from PSO
              Grip from Ridge Racer
Prologue from Shadow of the Colossus
              Uncharted Worlds from Mass Effect
Aerith's Theme and Anxious Heart from FFVII

These are the tunes that fill me with joy. Most of them are first stage tracks, they're ingrained in to my brain through decades of play -

                R-Type

                Dracula-X

                Bubble Bobble -

Garou Mark of the Wolves - Sunrise on the train

And of course, for me, Soldier Blade

Suits the game perfectly. Although it drives me mad in the end.. it's really hypnotic.

I'm glad somebody else posted Devil Crash. Awesome tune. Jaki Crush on SFC also has some wicked music.

The PCE version is one of those "forever burnt in my mind" tracks. Love it!

The entire Third Strike soundtrack is brilliant in my opinion, but this is my favourite piece.

I also adore the Vib Ribbon soundtrack, the 2nd track in particular.

Guilty pleasure from Sonic Adventure 2.

Really enjoyed the field music in Nier too. That game is ridiculously overlooked, the soundtrack is easily on the level of a Final Fantasy one.

And finally I guess I'll leave this tune from Thunder Force IV. I'm not the biggest fan of the TF series but damn did Technosoft know how to compose!

Thunder Force IV was on my list... Need to pick this up for the MD.

On a Super Famicom bender right now but I'd definitely like to pick up a nice JP launch MD again, if only for the sound capability of the hardware. So very nice.

It's probably fair to say that I could throw up C64 SID tracks until the cows come home, it was THE memorable music videogame platform of the 80s. Yes, more than the NES or Amiga. Couple of left field tracks, somewhat, they are just moments of bizarre genius...

Lie with passion and be forever damned...
