Watching Romancing the Stone on film4 ,Ferris Bueller's Day Off is on after

Using a free rental voucher given away with The Star on Saturday, I decided to rent Trick 'r Treat, as I'd heard it was supposed to a bit of cult gem, like some modern day version of Creepshow.

Just finished watching it, and I have to say I found it watchable but pretty disappointing, with overly far-fetched storylines, plus at 79 minutes it seems to go on far too long - I think the only truly effective segment is the

      'quarry'

tale, the rest are much of a muchness. Having said that, it was nice to see some late-80s rubber monster fx on show for a change, and I'm glad I didn't actually pay to see it (plus you got a free bag of sweets with that voucher, also).

I used to love that when I was a kid. A real Boy's Own adventure. DeVito, his bald bro, the nutcase general, the wild untamed setting, the water slide, the waterfall plunge, Lil Mule, Turner's legs, that minx in the opening wild west sequence, etc, etc

Got 20 minutes into Adventureland before realising it was absolute pap, watched The Ugly Truth instead. Not quite as bad but a very poor romcom.

The Man From Earth was a recommended title that I watched on my own last week. Hmmm. It's more of a screenplay than a movie, it all takes place in the same location.

The potential was there for a truely excellent movie but spoilt by the ridiculous twist revealed about an hour in. Worth a watch but expect to feel cheated at the end of it.

I watched 'The Mist' on DVD over the weekend. It's based on the Stephen King book of the same name. I thought it was pretty good sci-fi horror, well worth a rent.

My blu-ray copy of UP arrived today, and I've just finished watching it.

I'm not ashamed to admit I was teary-eyed during the silent run through Carl's life.

SuperTroopers. One of my all time favourite films.

Hmm, I found it not quite as good second time, but I remember first time round really enjoying it. Ish.

I was at a friends birthday bash last weekend, and one thing I remember doing was raiding her DVD collection which she has amassed, think she has more DVDs than i have games....... nahh..... not possible! Anyways, not one to leave empty handed, she insisted I take home 'Taken' with me. I remember seeing the trailer for the film a while back and thinking, it was another one of them boring ransom movies, where the wife ALWAYS cries herself into a blubbering mess........

Anyways I decided to give it a watch, and like with most movies lately, I was most suprised with how good it was. Liam Neeson is one bad son of a mothers goat! Glad I gave the movie a chance, and once again, like all American movies, paints a very nasty image of European culture........ there were notable plot holes and some far fetched areas, but it was entertaining and action packed........ 7.5/10! Oh and there is some mighty fine eye candy too for all you fellow shallow Hals! Anthony Robbins save us all!

The Hurt Locker. Bit over-rated I thought, and way too much macho cheese. Give me an episode of Generation Kill any day of the week.

Aliens but with a slight twist, watched it in the cinema since they have a single screening at the Prince Charles cinema in London. It has always been my favourite action film and was brilliant seeing it at the cinema, though it appeared to skip at a number of areas, I'm blaming the projection, but a superb experience all round. The first time I've gone to the cinema to watch a film I already enjoy, definitely a different experience to watching new films. Recently, there've been screenings of In the Mood for Love, Spirited Away and
Casablanca (in London), which have all been very very tempting.

Finally got around to watching Avatar last night. What an incredible film. Very by the numbers story, Future yanks find planet rich in minerals, inhabited by aliens in spiritual harmony with their planet, battle for the planet ensues with an earthling on their side

Really didn't think i was going to like it as much as i did. Amazing effects and an excellent film all round. Wish i had seen it in 3D now.

There I was thinking I was the only person who felt that way about Hurt Locker. Good film, very tense scenes, but a bit silly really. Do they really go out in in lone vehicles over there? And a bomb disposal expert is better at combat than SAS troops? Come on!

I felt the same about The Hurt Locker, it is good but not 9 Oscars good.

Watched Youth In Revolt last night. The trailer spoils the entire plot and almost every funny moment. It was watchable enough I guess but damn that's one of the most spoiler ridden trailers I've ever seen!
