The Golden Gate scene is the first action scene in a long time to truly excite me. I literally was in awe of that battle.I am excited to think what they can do to top that in a sequel. The director has already said he has ideas for a "Full Metal Jacket with apes" where he shows them training and then going off to war

Loved Planet of the Apes, too. The effects were incredible. Especially loved the following three awesome bits:
1) Subtitles!
2) NOOOOOOOO!
3) Ape riding horse!
Also, for those who saw it:
Did Caesar use that 113 stuff on the big massive gorilla? I know he rolled the canisters of it among the cages to gas the apes in there but I don't recall it going on the gorilla. Trying to figure out whether the gorilla remained a gorilla or whether he got clever like the others...

It was nearby when the canisters went off so I'm presuming it was enhanced. The ones they broke out weren't so it was stretching it a bit there. The main issue they have to get around in Apes 2 is that realistically none of the Apes would last 2 minutes against a human force so they'll need to balance it out well

Maybe they will be like the Navi in Avatar.
The Apes will win becuase they are smarter than humans and use their knowledge and planning to their advantage rather than technology or brute force (which at the end of the day is all us humans ever seem to have going for us really).Last edited by rmoxon; 14-08-2011, 17:19.

Super 8. Deffo dlivers on the nostaligic Spielberg pitch. It's not perfect but I really enjoyed it.
Second homage of the week was Obsession, another Brian De Palma love letter to Hitch, only this one has a Bernard Herrmann soundtrack and a script by Paul Schrader. Bit of a super group then. It's not as mad as Body Double and Dressed to Kill but it does nail Vertigo's (on which it's heavily based) dream-like atmosphere.

Also,
There was no monkey romance going on!
I remember in the trailer there was a shot of Caesar doing the forehead thing with another ape that I swear I didn't see in the film. Also, when he first enters the big cage while all the other apes are there, there's a quick shot of one that looked a bit female, but I think they've removed that whole thing. I didn't think much of it at the time but LOOK!
CORNELIA!?

I think the caption underneath the pic is wrong, that picture looks like it is actualy one from when he is in the lab and the only time the full grown Ceaser is at the lab is when he
breaks out all the chimps
and then after that scene he certainly has no time for romance.
Course maybe there was a whole romantic subplot that was actualy removed that occured after James Franco's character shows Ceaser where he works. Who knows really.Last edited by rmoxon; 15-08-2011, 15:07.

Watched Super 8. Didn't enjoy it at all.
Took far too long to get going (I'm increasingly convinced editing is a dying art in Hollywood), was full of inexplicable stuff
The reason for the sherrif hating the that other dad so much was because his wife took a shift when he called in sick and she had an accident? I know they had to try and come up with a 'I understand why he hates him but it was forgivable' but that was just lame. At most it would cause mild resentment, not the "at each other's throats" type anger.
Why were the military just... pointless dickish? Why did the sherrif who'd just been put in a detention cell, beat up a guard and attempt a daring escape? Why was the monster unable to be killed by mechanical machine guns? Why should we give a **** about the monster in any way? Why did the director not realise it was incredibly irriating to keep point loud explosions and noises in the middle of dialogue?
It wanted to be Goonies meet ET but really you didn't even get attatched to the kids. For example, the skinny brown haired kid that wasn't the Main character, the smart guy, the fat kid or the explosives nut... Did he even have a personality?
Rant over.
