Fright Night, the new version, better than I expected to be honest and it helped reassure me that Farrell might not be that bad for Total Recall. Nothing great but fun enough.

How to Train Your Dragon, still as brilliant as it was the first time

Source Code, one of the top sci-fi thrillers in recent times, about all there is to say really, excellent.

Red State. HD PPV rips have surfaced and it's very good! Some shocking moments, has Kevin Smith stamped all over it despite it being a horror and its pretty fun to watch. It is a bit short I guess, but tight.

Also watched A Fistful or Dollars and A Few Dollars More. Preferred the first, slightly. Got TGTBATU next to watch which I'm looking forward to. Basically catching up on some classics I've never seen.

They are both very similar. The only major change is the additon of a scene in the climax on the Directors cut that explains a bit more of the source of the Alien eggs. Either version is amazing but I prefer the original because that additional scene slows the climax down a little. The directors cut is also a bit shorter than theatrical because they trimmed some earlier scenes down a bit.

There is a scene at the start of the Directors Cut where you see Newts family isn't there?

No Fader, you are confusing it with the inferior sequel ;-)

Aha inferior. But yes in Aliens there are scenes with Newts family in the Directors, they are out scavenging, dad has a look in the crashed ship and promptly gets face hugged.

I made 3 separate attempts to watch this movie but couldnt get past the first 15 mins, dont know what it was but it just couldnt hold my attention. Maybe because from the beginning you can see how the Vikings live their lives and how the dragons are portrayed and viewed so you just know how its going to pan out in the end.

Watched Knight & Day. Accepted it for what it was and had a good laugh. Not bad at all and the Diaz at almost 40, yeah, I definitely would :-)

I think it's massively overrated myself

Apologies! I thought we was talking about the (superior) sequel

I think you know how it is going to pan out becuase it is an animated family film, not becuase of how it starts.

Its all besides the point though, How to train your Dragon is a brilliant film, its an absolubte marvel IMO, it has everything this kind of film should have and its all of outsanding quality, it tries to hit so many notes and masters them all. I love every single frame of it and think it is a masterpeice. Plus, the score, my god, the music is just increadble.

.... Anyway today I watched Bad Boys for about the 60th time. I was thinking, was this the last really enjoyable buddy cop movie? It is much better than the crazily overblown (and over scripted) sequel anyway. This is actualy the first time I have seen it for a few years and it is actualy quite interesting going back and veiwing what is basicaly Micheal Bay on a small budget. I imagine two minutes of footage featuring Optimus Prime probabaly costs more than the entierty of this film, yet it is still one of the most fun things he has done.

Maybe he should try watching it again himself?

Lol, how did I just know you would like HTTYD? The intro is standard fare, heres one side, heres how things are perceived and the common convention. Now heres our protagonist whos a little different to everyone else there he will be the one to discover the oh so clever plot twist and bring both side together. Yawn. Its got nothing to do with family animated movie. Take something like monsters inc for example. . . . . . A monster in a childs room, the kid suspects and is afraid, oh wait, this isnt a real kids room and in fact the monster is the one whos afraid and is in training to gain childs screams. In the first ten mins im completely sucked in just waiting to learn whats going to happen next as the mons inc universe expands.

Maybe httyd ix a brilliant film, but i doubt it due to the dry exposition.
