Watchmen and The Punisher are my favourites. The Punisher was almost classic 80's action, just like The Expendables tried so hard to be. I'm a bit annoyed it never got a true sequel, though they were close at one point I believe.

This week started with an 80s binge with The Breakfast Club and St Elmos Fire. Had never seen either of them before and although they are considered classics of the era I didn't enjoy them that much. Both needed an injection of more story.
Best thing was the soundtrack to St Elmos Fire! Everyone likes that song lol.
Last night we watched Bronson which was OK. Tom Hardy put in an excellent performance but ultimately I got bored from too many arty shots and the fact that Bronson was simply a headcase.

Quantum Of Solace and Watchmen. Quantum was kinda OK but in plot terms felt more like an episode of Cash In The Attic than epic Bond, just felt so low-key and carpety. Kicked off with some quality action during the 'rooftops' bit near the start and then descended into beige. Really do love Craig's super-violent Bond but both the Bonds he's done so far have been damp squibs, and that's nothing to do with Craig, this Bond needs simpler, more epic plotlines to work well within, maybe a dash of humour might help, too.
Watchmen was a bit better. I was never a great fan of the original, overhyped graphic novel but really liked elements of it and I think Zack Snyder did a pretty good job with this adaptation, despite all the flak he gets (and I'm a long-term '78 DOTD devotee who wasn't too impressed by his 'remake'!) he did a bloody good job of translating the original source material here. Didn't think it was fantastic, it's a bit choppy n' awkward, it flags a bit, it's a bit surfacey at points and is obviously trying to nail something big within a relatively short amount of time - it's straining all the time - but Rorschach was ace, Doctor Manhattan was ace, and the depiction of The Comedian was cool as f*ck, adored that bit where he's
revealed to be the second gunman at JFK's assassination
!!. Also loved that epic shot of
Doc Manhattan and the boys in Vietnam
, that was lovely (bet it was fuc'n awesome at the cinema!)
Also, gained an extra 4% space of the Sky+ box upon watching and deleting both of these, *need* that space, too much cack from The Horror Channel and surplus episodes of The Chase still left to watch on there, plus got Tony: London Serial Killer to re-record, simply HAVE to see that film again (future cult classic in the making!!!).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the original Watchmen series was overhyped- I think it's an instance of critics and media hyping the hell out of something at a particular moment in time-although, admittedly, the comic did do some very interesting stuff, I just didn't like it that much. Dark Knight Returns was more my thing, although it was most likely seen as intellectually inferior to Watchmen. Shame about Frank Miller being a shadow of his old self these days. The Watchmen film was quite enjoyable when I finally watched it. Could've been better and I'll most likely never watch it again but it was pretty good one late night last year. Sky+ box - I have a box full of films I recorded, but never got to watch even one as they stopped my access after I cancelled my subscription.

Speaking of the Punisher - I actually liked the Dolph Lundgren one!

Just watched Argento's The Card Player. Not entirely ****e (I love his night sequences and there are some lovely shots of suburban Rome) but definitely one of Dario's worst.
Don't really think mixing video poker with a giallo was a particularly intelligent idea, the climax is uffing preposterous, ffs!
PS: Just another mention for Tony: London Serial Killer. It's on The Horror Channel tonight at 10.55pm if anyone fancies it.

Urgh, I found the Dark Knight Returns to be lamentable compared to Watchmen, and Miller is not fit to lick the **** off Moore's damned arsehole as far as career output goes.
I watched Rush Hour 3 the other day. Hmm. Put it this way, if it didn't have Jackie in, I'd probably despise it and never want to see it again.
