    I knew you would comment

They could easily have taken the good bits from both the sequels and made the one film rather than subject us to the worst scripting ever. I would happily edit the crap out Revolutions until it was only half an hour long.
And why do they draw attention to the fact that the Oracle looks different? Just say she can change her appearance whenever she wants and leave it at that - don't mention it a bunch of times and give a lame reason for it.

      Star Trek
The new one. With the young Kirk. What an utter travesty. Absolute garbage. There should be rules preventing arsehole directors from retconning 30 years worth of heritage. They literally ****ed the entire franchise, and thanks to that stupid time travel nonsense, every single subsequent Star Trek no longer exists. Well done JJ Abrams, you colossal knob-end. Star Trek is dead to me now.

But the last Star Trek was a sequel as much as it was a prequel. The original films still exist and still happened, just in a different timeline. I thought it was very clever what they did with it.

Its also just a fantastic film by a great director. The cast was great too.

        Anyway...

I watched Drive. Thought it was a beautiful film that was brilliantly acted. Ryan Gosling was amazing in it and the moments of brutal violence scattered throughout were handled really well. It had an almost dream like atmosphere and although the story was nothing original it was done in a unique enough way to be compelling.

One of the best films I have seen in ages.

I really liked the new Trek too, lol.

Well, after last weeks controversy over Spiderman 2, this weekend we sat down and watched Spiderman 3.

Such a frustrating film, it literally feels like they filmed Spiderman 4 at the same time and edited them both together into a single tangled mess. There's some good stuff buried away in the film but it's hard to see in the mountain of angst, bad comedy and bad guys.

Remove Venom and have him in Spiderman 4 recast and it'd improve
Get rid of Harry's amnesia subplot and it'd improve
Cut the emo joke bits and it'd improve
Get Dunst to try and act for 2 seconds and it'd improve.

With some run time freed up to allow Sandman to breath this could have been a solid, decent follow up to Spiderman 2 but you can see Raimi and Sony try to stretch and bend the film to their opposing wills on screen. Hopefully, the new Spiderman film sets things back on track.

Another thumbs up for the new Trek, sorry Sketcz!

I also love The Matrix Reloaded, Fader. As you say, the Burly Brawl and Freeway Chase are some of the most exciting action sequences I've seen at the cinema and have re-watched the action sequences many times. The Zion rave was painful and the ending was a head-scratcher, but I like having something to think about.

3rd one was rubbish. Everything set up in the first two seemed to be made worthless by the last film.

Anyway, this week I saw Merantau (more in the Kung-Fu thread), Hobo With a Shotgun and Attack The Block.

HWAS was OK. A bit daft, but I could see what they were trying to do. I think it worked best as a trailer and you filled in the blanks yourself.

I didn't like Attack the Block, sorry. I love Adam & Joe, thought the setting and concept were good, loved the idea for the aliens and enjoyed some of the set pieces, but I really hated the yoof in it. They're the kind of mugging scumbags that would be first with the looting. Despite attempts to make you feel sympathy for them, I was just looking forward to them having horribly painful deaths, and that lack of empathy means there's very little tension.

            Ya get me, blud?

            eugh.

Unarmed and Dangerous? Awesome! Have you been trying to strengthen your fingers, do a handstand up the stairs or run across cement?!

Did you know there was a series of books and comics too?

Yeah i did, just never checked out the books or comics. Funny movie, the dodge at the end is hilarious.

Just watched Far North - fairly good film but one very strange ending.

Watched Green Lantern last night, oh dear. I knew the reviews were average at best but for all the effort and money the studio put into it . . . its just all very, flat and not very exciting. I still maintain RR was the wrong choice of actor, he really needs to pull out a good adult version of Deadpool out of arse now to get back in my good books quite frankly.

What I considered the important plot points just seemed very rushed, like the space story intergalactic bits, training etc, too much of it was set on earth and most of the good space bits were in the bloody trailer. In fact all the good bits were in the trailer.

Very dissappointed by what should have been a movie to blow everyone away, instead goes out with a whimper. I wont be surprised if this spawns a sequel/reboot type movie but I would like them to get Wonder Woman, flash and the reboot of batman underway and as a build up to a justice league movie before we get into another GL film.

I heard theres an extended cut on the dvd. Maybe that is better?

Or is that what you watched?

Inglourious Basterds - Effin love it. One of my fave films of recent times and possibly QT's best. Alot of people will probably disagree but it offers so much and the two male leads in Christophe Waltz and Brad Pitt are outstanding. Along with comedy, action and suspense. Excellent.

Gladiator - Haven't seen it for years and with my embarrassingly poor memory, forgot half of the major plot points so it was great watching it again. Excellent performance by Russell Crowe and Joaquin Pheonix for that matter too.

Inglorious Basterds was ok. I loved the scene in the bar.

It was unfocused and overlong though, it felt like a collection of ideas more than a well structured plot to me. I mean the "Basterds" of the title virtually didnt even need to be in the story, it would have been almost exactly the same plot, just missing some random acts of violence. It certainly wasn't about them anyway.

Yeah, thats the one I watched but its all fricking in the beginning with him as a kid and his dad as some ace fighter pilot. You can see why they cut it, it was pants! Im trying to think of the best thing in the movie and I suppose it was Mark Strong as Sinestro but even that was ruined after the credits. Cant be arsed for spoilers but it basically sets up the sequel which apparently wont go ahead as the studio were disappointed with the results.

Oh, and loved IB. Definetly QT back to his best after the 2 kill bill movies and Death Proof which I hate. horrible movies those, but IB bought back the imaginative and daring QT, setting up his scenes with dread and tension until you can bear no more and it just explodes, sometimes literally. Everyone was great except Brad Pitt who ruined the scenes he was in by being way over the top and comical, it just didnt work for me. Bad casting choice by QT, I think even Clooney might've been a better choice or even Matt Damon or fricking Walberg FFS. The bit where Pitt has to pretend to be Italian was not funny at all, just crap. Also loved the Mike Meyers cameo, Im sure he could do some more straight acting if he was given the chance. And another great part to add to Fassbenders already impressive resume. The guy is just class.

Watched the Biggie Smalls biopic, Notorious. Gah, it's so bloody dull, characters are dull, it's not an exciting film at all. Could've redeemed itself a tad by giving a bit more screen time to Craig Mack, but he gets, like, a two-second shot of him at a photoshoot, and even then it's just a guy in a bad wig!

                                Poor bastard.
