Not as good as the first but alright enough. Despite the fuss the cast and crew have made against the idea it leaves it open for a Taken 3 also
Taken was a 15 at the cinema and the Director's cut DVD was 18.

    Taken 2 is 12a...

      ^Yeah, f*ckin' 12A???!

Anyhoo, keep on procrastinating watching full films but have decided if I can enjoy a episodic saga like Breaking Bad, bit by bit, then what's actually wrong with watching half a film one night, the other half the next night?

So, on this proviso, have decided to half-watch two movies I've already seen, The Story Of Ricky and Rocky IV. Ricky's not quite as great as I remember it being, it's still good but the effects are maybe too ropy to have the 'chunk factor' necessary for good gore(?) Rocky IV on the other hand is still quite brilliant, so very bombastic and Reaganite, though this time around, I kind of sympathise with Drago, especially how twitchy he gets when he comes out for the Creed fight (Dolph Lundgren's face is fantastic in this!!), and the fact that he is basically treated like **** by everybody 'cos he's Russian. Not only that, Apollo Creed deserves to die!!!!!! His frankly ponced-up ringside entrance is one of the most embarrassing things I've yet seen, I was rooting for the subsequent Drago deathblow so badly. Cut it short there, a fantastic halfway point to rewatch from.

Saw Taken 2 today as got a 2 tickets for 8 quid dealy.

Wasn't as bad as the reviews would have you believe, but basically just more of the same toned down a fair bit. Was quite short and sweet too, not a lot seemed to happen and I guess as you know what to expect it didn't have quite the same punch/threat level as the first film either.

With regards to Taken 2 being ****/only ok, I'd just like to say that I called it, way back when everyone was raving about the pile of crap trailer.

I noticed the tagline on a bus today: First they came for his daughter. Now they're coming for him.

Anyone with half a brain/child would realise that that does equate to a film with increased tension over the prequel, which presumably is what you're after. Unless you're a talentless hack trying to make a quick buck, of course.

            Raiders of the Lost Ark

A timeless classic of course, the BR version does show its age in places though, but still it has the old classic film look so not complaining. It still amazes me that after watching this film for the last 30 years I still pick up on things that I never did before.

Like for example the registration no of the plane at the beginning .. OB CPO for example ..

            Classic stuff

I watched it at the Imax last month. Hadn't really sat down and watched it all the way through before, and my mum (who I went with) hadn't seen any of it. Great film. Shows up most modern dross for the rubbish that it is.

Just finished watching Ip Man 2. Very enjoyable film. I thought the British actors did a good job considering the dialogue (you could tell some of lines were direct translation) and the action was top-notch. The pick of the bunch of the fight scenes was the one with Sammo - the part where they're both just firing punches at each other 'Matrix' style was superb! It did however feel a little more over the top than the first (wasn't overly keen on some of the wire work) but not annoyingly so.

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom
I really don't understand why this films is considered the 'weaker' Indy film. Personally I put it on par with all of them, and in some ways (not all) it is actually my favorite.

It's an extremely dark film, which when I first watched it at 10 years old I dare say I didn't really pick up on. The Bluray version is darker still as it has the intact 'Heart Ripping' and first sacrifice scene, which is never shown on UK TV and I believe it was cut from the UK DVD's as well, but I could be wrong. The scene where Short Round gets whipped is also intact, those two scenes alone make the film even darker.

It also has the best 'Scream Queen' of the Indy series in Kate Capshaw .. Yummy Mummy indeed!

And lets not forget the mine kart sequence which is probably the best 'chase' sequence committed to film ever, even if it is showing its age, with some of the sections on BR clearly showing the fact that most of the time the karts are filled with mannequins.

Temple of Doom is like a Scotch Whiskey , it just seems to get better with age.

Yea temple of doom was my fav indy as a kid....the Shangai opening, crazy royal palace section/dark indy part, and lastly the awsome minecart escape.

May well just be my own personal nostalgia, but its probably still my favourite.

Another Temple of Doom fan here!

I've just watched Wangan Midnight: The Movie.

It's probably best described as Initial D meets Christine. A schoolboy racer renovates a Fairlady Z and discovers the previous owner had the same name but was killed in the car when it crashed.

A doctor drives a Porche 911 and is shocked to see the Z that his friend died in is back on the road and tries to warn the driver that it's cursed.

                      It's OK. Nothing special.

There's an anime, manga and a PS2 and PS3 game by Genki.

                        Hard Candy.

This was really good. Good story, gruesome, difficult subject matter. And I liked the ending (rare!)

Can certainly understand why temple of doom would be your favorite as a kid, its probabaly the silliest out of the four films.

You have the over the top commically idiotic female sidekick, the ridculously daft and cheesy opening sequence ect. Besides the finale the script is probabaly alot more light hearted than Raiders too, and when the film does get dark... well what kid doesnt like seeing people ripping out other peoples hearts? Also one of the main plot points features children, and Indy's other sidekick even IS a child. Id imagine it is alot of childrens favorite in the series.

The problems with the film appear when you grow older and realise that it just isnt as good a film as the others.
