Elf is on Channel 5 on sunday, around 6.15 i believe. Absolutely brilliant it is too.

I watched this recently as well matey, incredibly shocking start with the sexual assault scene. The music just set the film perfect - pulse-ing beeps.

I watched Guillermoro Del Toro's The Devils Backbone the other night. Another Spanish language gem from one of my favourite directors. Not exactly a difficult plot to fathom but it's well acted and beautifully shot. If you've seen Pan's Labyrinth you'll recognise the look and feel here.
A subtle and enjoyable film well worth a look.

Watched Le Doulos last night which i thought was very good, but a bit run of the mill up until the plot twist near the end, which transformed my whole perception of the film, (as is a plot twists want) then the last 20 mins sent my wub-o-meter off the scale! Loved it. Also watched Gorky Park last week which was pretty good.

Chungking Express - On the Blue-Rayz. Not my favourite WKW film, but pretty special none the less. First part with Brigitte Lin & Takeshi Kaneshiro is definitely better than the second story, which goes on for too long and pretty much kills California Dreaming. The opening credit music is awesome.

The French Connection I & II - The first one is a classic that really doesn't need a sequel. The second one is really strange, it feels a bit like an expensive B-movie or maybe an Italian police procedural type thing...it's still worth watching though.

Rubbish. Cute brunette bird though (I'm not talking about that mutuant who dies first).

The whole Hostel thing was rubbish anyway. No atmosphere, no depth or subtext. Just torture. If I wanted to watch something that was nothing but gore, I'd watch a surgery documentary.

Both films are indeed rubbish but at least the first one had some vaguely interesting escape sequence not just "I will buy myself out of here" crap.

Eli Roth should just go back to making films with pancakes and kung fu kids

Saw "The Day The Earth Stood Still" a couple of days back. Not the original mind, but the remake... I have to admit that i never saw the original but i did my research before venturing into this new installment.

From a completely fresh perspective, putting aside comparisions, i thought this was a very shallow film horribly ruined by crappy CGI but still, nonetheless, had some interesting bits here and there. However, it has such a strangely and quite worryingly overlooked flaw at the end. Everything the film was trying to say, and there is an important message in there, is completely put aside and left to waste by such a pointless ending...

I have since looked up the original's ending and it works perfectly. Why the remake didn't do something even slightly similar is beyond me. Such a huge oversight, such a waste.

Anyhoo... I've also re-watched Muppet's Christmas Carol. Such a perfect Christmas movie, absolutely love it. There's so much life in those little puppets, and Caine is as splendid as usual.
