Mosquito NR, interesting. I'll be curious to see how well Sony manage to do that.

Standard DNR would normally mean the Temporal kind which would smooth out moving noise across sequences of frames, Mosquito NR will specifically target compression artefacts and try to soften them without sacrificing (too much?) genuine picture detail.
I once reviewed a standalone MNR unit but that cost 700 pounds or so.
Some Noise Reduction can very occasionally be good, but yes... especially in your average consumer product it usually does more harm than good.Last edited by Lyris; 20-03-2008, 14:37.

It does seem like it may be a good thing to have then if it's done well. Do Sony have any history with this type of NR that you've seen in the past?
If they handle it well then the PS3 will definately become my PVR of choice. The fact that I'll be able to record TV onto it and then burn it onto DVD when needed seals it for me.
I don't know if it's standard but my current PVR has far too much fan noise for my liking so that's another reason to maybe use the PS3 instead.

If the MNR is good and it can be used with that PlayTV (that's the name, right?) tuner, it'll be great.

Just finished watching I Am Legend. Really enjoyed it. Watched both endings have issues with both, but I think it’s very hard to put a lid on films of this type. I think it boils down to whether you’re an optimist or a pessimist really.
Like everyone I struggled a bit with the CGI vampire creatures, but I have to say they weren’t as bad as I was expecting. Remind me a lot of the original 'Mummy' film, but I struggled a) to relate them to humans which I think is important given the concept of the film, and b) the fact they all wore hulk type pants. Thought that was a tad convenient as was the fact if they were a woman they would have a top on.
Picture quality wise, I’m no expert but it looked good to me. I know a lot of people said it has the classic 'soft' Warner look. Well the only other HD Warner title I have seen is the Matrix and it’s a lot better than that in my book.

Watched "The Invasion" last night with the missus and thought it was prety good as far as remakes of remakes go (Invasion of the Body Snatchers).
Picture quality was excellent: very sharp with a very even, intentional, grain effect all the way through.
Also bought "Swordfish" over the weekend (it's a guilty pleasure) so I'll probably watch that this evening.
My "I Am Legend" shipped from Amazon.com on Saturday too for the bargain price of ?9.90!!! Hopefully that'll turn up by the end of the week.
