There's that, and there's also the fact that they don't seem very good at spotting High Definition!

Here's what the disc looks like: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...0#post12873190

I recieved my US Rambo yesterday, and I was reading the little card that tells you about the 'digital copy' that comes on the 2nd disk. I have to say its pretty frikkin cool. It has instructions on how to import it into my itunes library so I can watch it back on my iPhone.

Is this the same thing that was talked about a while back relating to the PSP?

Also is this a US only thing, or do UK disks get such features?

Don't bother - it only works for the US Using iTunes will bring up a "Only US or Canadian citizens may use this feature" message. Using WMP11 will let you copy the file over but it won't run

Wow, 2 weeks early, how did you get it so fast? Where'd you order from? Or do you have contacts?

The Digital Copy bollocks on Juno (Region A) worked fine for me. Until I upgraded my PC and had to reinstall Windows. Then I got told "License acquisitions exceeded".

I just created a US account

Once you have authorized your machine for the US account you can just continue to remain signed in under your UK account as its the machine that is then authorized to play back the content and not the account.

All you have to remember is if you format the machine you have to re-authorize the US account again as well as the UK one to play back any US content.

Works a treat, have it on my iphone now, quality is superb.

My Natural Born Killers blu-ray turned up today.

After seeing the UK blu-ray for Bonnie & Clyde in town today I'm really beginning to appreciate these digi-book editions that Warner are producing in the US.

Does the Region B-Grade version not have the book case?

Bonnie & Clyde was just in a standard case in HMV. I'm not sure if it's available in the digi-book case but that was the only one they had in. I noticed that Dirty Harry was there with a standard case and that was also a digi-book in the US.

I didn't like them before but they do start improving once you start to build up your collection of them.

Lowry Digital, who many praise but I find to be distinctly hit and miss with their restoration work, was assigned to the Bond films a few years ago and the Blu?s will definitely come from those versions. Generally the work was well received.

They did full 4k scans and restorations on nine of them (all the Connery titles, On Her Majesty?s Secret Service and some of the Moore films if I recall) and the rest were finished in 1080p. A couple suffered some rather severe cropping (Goldeneye and A View to a Kill; perhaps others too) which I am not sure Lowry or MGM ever admitted to however. Whether such issues will be rectified for Blu-ray I don?t know, but somehow I doubt it. Some of the colour changes proved quite controversial as well, as did Mi Casa?s alteration of audio elements for the new 5.1 mixes ? although the US DVDs I believe contained the original tracks in addition to the new ones so the argument there was rather moot.

Here's a short documentary about the Bond restoration:

I too am hoping for individual releases rather than the out of sequence 'volume' box set approach used for the DVD release - partly because we all know what Fox/MGM pricing is like, and also because I like to pick and choose my Bond films rather than be subjected to owning ones I don't really want.

I just hope they don't look like "Patton".

Thanks for the YouTube link, I love this stuff even if it's nothing surprising to me anymore!

                              Interesting clip, thanks for that.

Do you know if the the Lowry DVDs different to the older DVD sets or were they just repackaged?

I had quite a few from this older set:

I've not seen any of these newer DVDs though:

I don't mind when they remix the audio into one of the newer multi channel formats as long as the do also leave the option of the original soundtrack on the disc.

Lyris, I've seen the shots of Patton & so much of the details has been removed as often happens in films that get tidied up for consumers. Are the rights for the film worldwide or is there a chance that we'll see a different version released elsewhere?

I really enjoy the film but if we're going to get a proper version in the next few years then I'd possibly buy this version.

I've just seen John Rambo: Uncut on Amazon.de but I'm wondering if it's different to the other region's release or whether German got their fairly predictably cut to pieces version of the film in the cinema?

I don't know about the rights, sorry, I'm not familiar with this film. What a mess though.
