Picked up The Exorcist today, can't wait to watch that again. Love it, one of my favs.
Was going to pick up The Evil Dead, but i keep hearing mixed reports on the pal version. Has anyone got any impressions of it?
I already own the book of the dead dvd version, so don't know whether its worth picking up again or not especially if its not a great job.

How many versions do you need?!

It's never going to be spotless because it was shot on cheap film stock. Surely the low-quality adds to the charm.

I'd keep your rubber book of the dead version and shout out "Klatuu Barada Nikto"...

Well i LOVE The Evil Dead. So the more versions the better.
From what i've heard the aspect ratio has been changed and it cuts off a bit of the picture. On the american release it has the original and the new aspect ratio. So i was just wondering if it is bad or what.

Even though it was shot on cheap 16mm stock, doesn't mean a HD version won't look far superior to a DVD version. Even if it's just blocking, the compression of DVD mpeg2 looks awful on a large screen. Modern codecs kick it's arse even if you match the file size, so imo, an Evil Dead BR upgrade is worth it

Yes, lazy studios do a crap job with MPEG-2. It can actually look really good but it almost never does.

Of course it would, the theoretical res of 16mm is much higher than DVD and higher than 1080p.

Thanks, I hadn't heard this was coming out.

Seems to be only available in Europe and not coming out on DVD - strange decision imo, but I'm happy as been waiting for this since catching it at the cinema. Going to be a fun evenings viewing with the missus!

Tell me about it, cannot wait!

My How to Train Your Dragon and Thin Red Line turned up today. Had a quick peek at HTTYD and it looks excellent, region free too.
Watched Timecop t'other night and was pleasantly surprised at the transfer, a definite step up from previous releases. Haven't got round to looking at the legendary Bloodsport yet.

I just hope they are planning on releasing Alien on Blu-ray by itself; I don't want to be forced to buy the three unnecessary sequels.

                              LOL! Enjoy!

Has anybody heard the James Cameron commentary on the Aliens DVD that I presume will be on the Blu-Ray? Is it OK or a bit stale? Does he shout at anybody? Is it a proper commentary or snippets of cast/crew interviews just dumped on an audio track over the film?

Nope. Its Alien. Aliens is a VERY close second though.
