I just want them to do Monsters Inc, though. It's probably my favourite Pixar film and I really want to see Sully and all his hair in HD. There's a moment at the beginning which is clearly just done to show it off and I can remember people being blown away with the shot as a means to show off the capability of DVD

    Edit: This is it:

    Imagine that baby in 1080p!
Wow, I was watching that last night on my new Sony KDL 40W2000 through components and it looked amazing! Can't believe it will be better on Blu-ray - but it will be!

      ?17.97 from Asda
      ?17.99 from HMV

I don't know why it's so expensive on Play either.

I saw Black Hawk Down on blu-ray a few nights ago and was pretty shocked at how bad the transfer was. Macro blocks all over the place and a generally blocky, colour banded look throughout. Could be down to MPEG 2 or the generally low bit rate used, but whatever it was it was pretty unacceptable. Shame as the movie itself is very pretty, as would be expected from Ridley Scott.

The movie was a bit of a muddle though, with poor characterization and it was pretty difficult to see who was who in the heat of battle with such a large cast. Entertaining all the same, but mostly for Ridley Scott's stunning visual style.

Watched Paprika on Blu-ray a couple of days ago when it finally arrived.

It was an MPEG-2 jobby, but looked pretty damn good to my eyes, although Anime in general does seem to transfer well to the HD formats. Extras were all in 480p though unfortunately.

The film is deliberately very grainy which is accentuated by all the sand flying around, so are you sure it wasn't just that that was making things look bad? I'd heard it was one of the better early releases.

The BD that's impressed me the most (I have Big Fish, Casino Royale, Hellboy and Pirates 1) picture-wise has been Hellboy actually. It was one of the first BDs to use AVC and has really nice vivid colours (lots of red, obviously) and tons of detail. In fact the quality of the video transfer is so high that it shows up some of the cheaper CG effects that just about got by on DVD. Perlman's makeup stands up surprisingly well.

Not in the slightest. Pause the movie and have a good look at the image quality, particularly in busy scenes. It's not grain, it's giant, ugly macro blocking. MPEG2 at it's worst.

                  It's an absolutely dreadful effort.

My brother bought the French BD of Paprika, it has English subs.

My opinion on the video transfer: it's OK. It's filtered so isn't as razor sharp as it should be and for whatever reason, is window-boxed, so if you have a TV that doesn't overscan, you'll see a black border around the whole image (a lot of Japanese Ghibli DVDs have this too... waste of resolution!).

And the movie is factually incorrect too, and makes yanks look way better than they actually were.

Good to know. I've been considering buying that one but I'll hold off if that's the case.

To answer Teddymeow, both the French and the Dutch releases have English subtitles (and dubs if you want to spoil the film ).

                          The Japanese release doesn't.

Caught a wee bit of a TMNT behind the scenes thing and fook me it looked amazing. I was excited about this when it first came out but never got around to going to the cinema to see it.

Want to get it on Blu ray and looking for the best place to order it??

How long did it take to come?

I ordered 300 from them couple weeks ago and it arrived quite smartly so no problem hitting them again, cheers debug.
