What I want to know is when will things like South Park, Simpsons and Family Guy etc be released on Blu Ray?

And how many episodes could you fit on a Blu Ray? I would happily pay good money for all 11 seasons of SP on, what 1 disc??

Fox have stopped releasing on blu-ray now so your guess is as good as mine.

They're not releasing anything new in America but some stuff is coming out in France. Problem is, it'll be locked to Region B so is only good for those of us with European players.

I doubt they have any plans for a long time, seeing as most of that material is made in standard-def (apart from later seasons of South Park, or so I'm told) and the demand for it in 1080p probably isn't too high. A lot of people have a "cartoons will look the same" mentality. When they mean cartoons as simple looking as most TV animation, they're sort-of but still not right.

To answer the other question though. One dual layer DVD (8.5gb) holds 8 episodes of Family Guy (on the current US release I have here) compressed into MPEG-2 plus some extras. They could quite probably fit a few seasons onto a 50gb Blu-ray Disc without too much compromise.

Since the animation in them is limited, they could probably get away with compressing them pretty aggressively and squeezing a lot onto each disc.

It's possibly fear of piracy after the encryption on blu-ray and HD DVD was cracked several months back, but nobody really knows.

It's odd though as Fox were shouting extremely loudly at CES this year about how fully behind blu-ray they were. Seems they behind it after all, just from way back on the sidelines at a nice safe distance.

OK...I know that this will probably be of interest to nobody else on here except me.

20 Million Miles to Earth: 50th Anniversary Edition becomes the first classic monster film, as well as the first stop-motion animation classic and the first film by the legendary Ray Harryhausen to debut in the Blu-ray High-Def format when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases the fan favorite on December 4. In addition to the pristine, digitally-restored black & white original, the classic film will now be available in a recently colorized version personally supervised by Harryhausen. Bonus features include audio commentary by Ray Harryhausen with visual effects artists Dennis Muren (War of the Worlds) and Phil Tippett (RoboCop, Starship Troopers).

I'm interested to see how this 50 year old film shapes up in HD. Hopefully they'll avoid all the blurring which would make this an easier conversion and master it as well as possible with the source material.

Hopefully it'll give us some sort of idea as to what is possible with something like this...

On that note, has anything actually used BD+? I did think ACSS being cracked would just accelerate the adoption of BD+.

BD+ is inside blu-ray players at least thats what i have been led to believe.

That's just because it's never been used.

Nothing is uncrackable. I give BD+ 3 months, tops.

I watched Apocalypto last night and this is now one of my favourite HD discs. Stunning levels of detail, and the same razor-sharp (but natural) image that's found in the absolute best-of-the-best HD transfers. Add to that a 24 bit PCM soundtrack and it's pretty clearly a top-tier title

I watched World Trade Center last night...

When I first heard this was being made I felt so disappointed then when I found out it was being made by Oliver Stone I really couldn't think of anybody I'd rather have handling it.

I was extremely nervous before watching the film to be honest, it felt too soon, I wasn't comfortable if anybody was in a position to be able to deal with it on film appropriately.

I really was stunned by how Oliver Stone treated the issues. This was not about about politics, religion or nationalities. It was about two Port Authority Officers who were in the concourse between the two towers as they collapsed and their families.

There was a few genuinely frightening scenes in this which really moved me and I did struggle to watch.

I'd actually written a fairly lengthy review for this post but I've just deleted it for some reason...

I can't really comment on things like the picture quality, the bit rate or the resolution because this is the first HD film that I've watched where I didn't once even think about them while watching. I'd never say that they aren't important, there just seemed to be far more important things at the time.

Well that turned into a crappy review after about an hour of typing lol!!

Lol be grateful I deleted over an hours worth there...

Watch it!! Seriously I can't recommend it enough.

I can't say it's the best film or the worst film ever, I wasn't in any sort of mood to be judgmental about it. Maybe when I watch it again sometime, I'll be able to judge it better...but not for a long time.

It reminded me of the first time I watched Schindler's List, I sat there just not being able to take it in fully because as much as you really try to understand somethings...they just seem too big to really comprehend.

I have developed a bit of a ritual with Schindler's List now.

Very occasionally, I'll make myself sit and watch the film. There's no enjoyment there at all when doing it but I think it's very healthy to remind ourselves of certain things and to make sure that we do feel uncomfortable, do feel sickened, shocked and shattered by what we are watching and to make sure that we don't look away from the screen when we feel we must!

I've had the World Trade Center Blu-ray on my shelf for a few weeks wondering whether I should watch it or not and almost changed my mind when it was starting!

Seriously debug77, do yourself a favour and watch it! There will never be a right time to watch films like this and perhaps that's exactly why we should watch them? Because there is no right time for them...

TMNT arrived this morning and I've given it a quick spin. It looks magnificent

To be honest I'd have been very concerned if it had looked any less than stunning seeing as it's a CGI movie from only 6 months ago.

If this looks that good the Blu-ray release of Advents Children is going to look.......I struggle to find a word with enough "oomph" to describe! I'll go with
