    'Rescue Dawn' Headed to Blu-ray
Originally posted by High Def Digest

In an early announcement to retail, MGM Home Entertainment says it will bring the acclaimed war drama 'Rescue Dawn' to Blu-ray this November.

Starring Christian Bale and Steve Zahn, the intense combat drama was the long-awaited return to Hollywood for acclaimed auteur Werner Herzog. American audiences turned a blind eye, however, and despite strong critical notices the film's domestic box office receipts barely topped $5 million.

'Rescue Dawn' should get a far better shot on video, with MGM planning to debut the film day-and-date on Blu-ray and standard-def DVD November 20.

As MGM has yet to issue a full press announcement, tech specs and supplemental details are not yet known, but we'll keep you posted.
The studio has set a $39.98 MSRP for the Blu-ray.
I've not seen this yet but I've a lot about it and it's supposed to be very good so this is one I'm really looking forward to.

Australian Spider-Man trilogy box set is now available at Movietyme. Does anyone know what special feature specs it has?

Having bought a couple of Australian DVDs in the past, massive and hideous age ratings that put even the big BBFC ones to shame are among the features on the box. It might not bother you but it manages to put me off even when they get a good release. They're so prominent that some films that are popular with the geek crowd (my Australian tin of Serenity is one) come with reversible covers where the reverse has no age ratings. I wish they'd do that here, actually.

I'd be interested to see how that turns out. It took them about ten DVD releases to finally have one with a decent transfer. The fact that the cover for the Blu-ray is the same as the recent UK tin bodes well since that's the best looking version by a long way, but I'd still appreciate some impressions.

Would be interested to hear some impressions on Transformers too, having never owned a copy of it myself.

Is the transfer decent or am I better off with the 4 quid DVD edition?

You can't tell a lot from off-camera shots but that transfer doesn't look bad at all.

I think you can depending on the shot, these are not great but look at that detail

I've Transformers BD (UK version if that makes any difference) as well, only watched it once so far.
In some scenes some of the greys look more greeny/blue than they do in the DVD e.g. When Hotrod and co arrive on Junkion the sspace ship colour looks odd when they land. I noticed this in a few scenes not just this one.
Can't say if any probs with detail etc, just the colours in some scenes

I would have expected this to have all the extras that the recent 2 disc DVD had but there's nothing nowt!!!
                          Only extras/options are audio set-up, 2.0, 5.1 and DTS
Also no original 4:3 version, as we all know they just chopped the top and bottom of the frame to make it 16:9.

This is really starting to pee me off now! Aside from the big releases, a lot of discs are vanilla versions. You'd think that they could at least put the extras from the SD dvd on there, how hard would it be?! I can't imagine the main picture takes up all 50GB ffs!

I think the whole HD situation is just a bit embarrassing sometimes. The average person wandering around HMV, possibly tempted by the HD buzzword, sees all the discs priced at ?25-35 and thinks screw that, why bother when I can get the normal dvd for a fiver, and probably with far more content!

I know most studios probably see HD as a niche market at the moment (because it is) but if it's going to grow they need to make a better fist of it.

I don't for one care about extras, look at evil dead II I got today pleanty of extras with the nasty divimax transfer that makes it look like crap
