I never realised that Harry Potter set was region free. I've never been a fan of the book, but the first two movies weren't bad. I might have to buy it.

I think with the scenes you're talking about, as Lyris suggests they are generally the ones that they struggle with.
I'm not completely sure how I feel about that though.
Look at ET on DVD for instance, forget about the different cuts of the films but the difference in the pictures between the two versions is amazing. When I first saw the newer version I was stunned at how they'd managed to clean it up but I'm not sure if they've gone over the line of cleaning up and moved into the territory of changing it visually.
I think there is a very fine line between what is right and wrong with these things but I find it difficult to decide whether I like it or not!

There certainly is, yeah. I was watching the documentary on the Blade Runner HD DVD about the "Restoration". The people that do it appear talented, make no mistake, but I think that their work is presented in a way that's a little too... pious (and I speak as someone who has experience himself with cleaning up digitised video and films - just not to the same extent as them).
They seemed to be taking some liberties and they made some changes which made me think "you're doing that just because you can".
But, they gave us the old version as well (at least on the US set) - so no hard feelings.

A little off topic but what did you feel about the ET clean up? Don't mention the scene changes etc as that's a whole different topic that would probably end in tears!
I think it's so difficult if the director decides to clean things up, to adjust the colours etc. I've watched Dracula now and after hearing a mix of stories about how well/badly it was done I'm really unsure as to how I feel about it.
When I saw it in the cinema years ago I can very clearly remember the over saturated colours throughout the film but it seems that wasn't down to Coppola now. I've seen the film so many times and the new looks and feels so different due to the changes but I've also got to accept that is how the director wanted it to look originally but for whatever reason, it didn't happen in that way.

My Australian Die Hard: With a Vengeance and Die Hard 4.0 turned up today. I've not imported Australian films before so was a touch surprised to see the intro text in what looked like Kanji to me!
The forums have been alight with which version of 4.0 the disc contains and since release they have been full of comments along the lines of "It's been confirmed on another forum that it's the Cinema cut" and "It's been confirmed on another forum that it's not the Cinema cut" without anybody seemingly trying it themselves.
Can somebody please let me know how I can tell the difference so that I can confirm 100% either way? I personally don't care but I know of people who have avoided buying them until they know.

They are Die Hard films with an M rating and a warning for course language on the front cover about 3" high...there is more swearing in them than the number of stupid Americans multiplied by the number of evil Europeans with exaggerated accents in these films!!!
Thanks for your help though...
