I Am Legend has been released on Blu-ray in the US, right?

My Amazon.com order from 22nd March says "shipped" but it hasn't turned up yet. Then I checked Movietyme and it has a release date of 8th April listed.

      Bit confused

The HD-DVD version is out on April 8th. They must be confused.

Just going to watch Takashi Miike's 'Imprint' on my Master's of Horror blu-ray to see what all the fuss is about.

The rest of the 4 disc set has varied from really good to unbelievably bad so I'm hoping this lives up to it's reputation.

Picked up a PS3 at the weekend, so finally got round to buying some Blu Ray movies. I have to say, on first look, its not a very eclectic & varied lineup of titles, is it?

Yeah, it's really not... but neither was DVD at first. The mainstream releases will start to come, it's not going to be endless sci-fi forever.

I know, I was there at the start of DVD too. I should have expanded, but didn't want it to come across as a BR v HD-DVD thing.

Looking at the titles out there, on one hand, I was thinking, "how on earth did HD-DVD lose out to this?"

But on the other hand, it explains exactly why BR won as I can see many of those titles being lapped up by a certain sort of punter.

Anyone got any news on the release of Cloverfield on Blu-Ray?

The DVD hits the shelves (US) on April 22nd. A few small websites are reporting that it's out on the same day, but nothing on any retailer website or larger movie website seems to say anything about it.

I remember reading something about it being practically finished on HD-DVD and possible problems transferring the extras to BD-Java. Why do I get the feeling this'll end up being a double dip.

                  ...and i'll buy both

I actually wasn't (well, not at the VERY start, too young and not enough cash) but I do remember seeing the discs first appear in HMV for 29.99

You're right ascender, it does seem to mainly be aimed primarily at 25 year old malesat the moment which I suppose makes sense due to how many films were sold to PS3 owners.

I can remember when DVDs started too and although my memory has faded quite a bit since then I'm fairly sure that it was about the same at that time.

This will be the big year for the format with all studios competing for sales between each other. I'm trying to look at it in a positive way as it's safe to say that quite a few of the earlier discs weren't of the quality that we've reached now, I'd really rather see my favourite films handled well by the studios now that they have more experience with the format.

Now that sales are improving there will be less costs for the smaller studios to get their stuff out and the larger studios will know that there is a larger market out there for their major franchises.

Thinking about it, I would probably have been declared bankrupt by now if thing had been different due to the cost of buying all the films I'd want but this way I probably have at least another 12 months before I'm completely destitute and living in an alley taking shelter under my a fairly large roof made out of my blu-ray cases!

When I first used to buy my films from HMV on DVD they were virtually all from warner bros and included unforgiven, as good as it gets, mars attacks, face-off, la confidentia, contact, the game. All on a single stand.

You've only got to look at America to see that there's already quite a good range of genre's being represented now. I recently picked up Juno, Dan in Real Life and Before the Devil knows youre dead. None of them look exceptional when compared to other blu-rays I own, but they're all quite diverse.

Nothing has been announced officially yet but the BBFC have just rated (02/04/08) something called The Godfather Trilogy Restored Bonus Disc Materials.

The listing shows a feature of 84m 18s and it's directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

Although the DVD set really does need to be restored (Don't shout, it's true) I don't see them spending the time and money doing all this if a blu-ray version wasn't being considered before starting.

HMV? That must have been a bit down the line. Along with a mate we'd imported the first Toshiba players from the US and were slowly replacing our laserdisc collections.

I'm not sure what the spread of titles were like actually. But I was pleasantly surprised by the mix of stuff out for HD-DVD in its short life. Its encouraging to see The Assassination of..... out this week and on shelves on the High Street though.
