It's one of the greatest, most popular films ever made. Snobby people call it a "Cult" film, but when a film.. is a huge hit that nearly everyone knows of and loves, then it's not a cult. The game for various 8/16-bit computers, was in the charts for years. Kids/Teens/Adults, probably even OAPs... loved Robocop back in the day. It's a prime example of 80s cinema at its best. Sure.. it would never win an Oscar, but when you look at what does win Oscars, you realise it's because Robocop isn't intellectual at all.. it's just a brilliant piece of pure entertainment.

Another in the koopa camp here. Hadn't seen it before but watched on Netflix on Saturday night. Tremendously entertaining. Totally of its time with hilarious levels of violence and random tits. As others have said I don't think it needs a remake.

I do fancy getting myself a 6000 SUX.

Robocop 2 was a bit meh but the idea of a robocop replacement was excellent

        especially the fight between them

but i love robocop and had still quality to this day, there is a certificate X version of it floating around - probably been passed by BBFC now that has excessive ed-209 shooting and Murphy more or less being blown apart

for the guys that have just watched it - give robocop 2 a shot, not as good but ultimately enjoyable but wholly avoid Robocop 3 at all costs

Why did that trailer have the Terminator music on it?
some trailers use the same music often, gladiator music is also through a truckload of trailers and Total recall (especially the intro tune) which funnily is used though the Gladiator trailer (the one where it starts a man who defied an emperor) espeically if it adds value tension lol

            koopa camp, I like that

Was thinking about finding the other 2 and giving them a watch, regardless of whether they are good/bad. Will be interesting to see where the concept goes....

Also buster - that x version sounds like the one I watched anyway? I can't see it being much worse than it was, nor would I want to

Robocop 2 is worth watching, it's a fun film, though obviously its not as good as the first film.

The third film is terrible, and almost as bad as the pg rated tv show. Its not worth the bother.

As for which version of the film you watched, both versions are extremely violent, people just generally get shot more times in the uncut version. Paul Verhoven actually prefers the theatrical cut as he thinks the uncut version is too comical becuase it's so over the top.

I have this cut on BluRay. Got the Trilogy for ?10 in HMV!

The first is by far the best. Murphy loses a whole hand. Then an arm. Then gets shot in the head. Savage.

Such a greeat film from start to finish. You really empathise with Murphy throughout. Loved it.

Basically the only things in the mega version of Robocop are that

when Murphy is cornered, after Clarence shoots his hand you see Murphy holding his wrist with gore spilling out, then the first shot from the other guys takes his whole right arm off, and the officer Kenny/ED-209 scene shooting goes on for ages.

                  .

Theres a detailed breakdown of all the differences here..

That site says there is only 30 seconds extra in the Uncut version.

I always thought it was longer than that, it seems so much more violent when watching it.

Yup, it is the 'mega' version on the UK BluRay.

Nordling here. I'm very interested in Jose Padilha's take on the classic Verhoeven movie, because I don't think it's going to be note-for-note like everything we've seen from TOTAL RECALL, for example. Padilha is an incredibly talented...

Gary Oldman has signed on to play a major role in the film as a character who wasn't in the original films suggesting more so that this is not going to be a like-for-like remake.

If Oldman is now confirmed this could be quite good. Was thinking at first he could be old Robo cop Lol ala Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4.

Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of Jose Padilha’s remake of “Robocop” at MGM and Sony Pictures says Heat Vision. Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) stars as cop Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer with the help of Gary Oldman’s scientist-creator character. I wonder how far they'll go with re-designing Robocop or if they'll just leave him as is.
