Taking this back on topic regarding the remake/reboot/fukup, the director, Jose Padilla, has cited Michael Fassbender as one of the people he'd like to talk to in regards to playing Murphy/Robocop.

If the world is going to get a new interpretation of Robocop then I can think of far worse people to portray the lead than Fassbender. I dont think I've seen him put in a bad showing. 300, Centurion, Inglorious Bastards, Xmen even bloody Jonah Hex, he's as good if not the best thing in those films IMHO. Very watchable and likable, even when playing a baddie.

I agree with that, I can see him as a decent fit for the role and he'd be likely to at least put the effort in

Why do they have to remake this - or even call it RoboCop? ... The RoboCop concept is interesting, so they should simply copy the idea and create a brand new franchise.

I just don't get remakes Firstly they make people compare them to the originals; secondly they create a situation where the creators are thinking too much about the previous film, so it ends up stifling creativity.

I wish studios would simply create new franchises and leave old ones a lone. Coming up with fresh new films should be paramount and the driving force behind cinema. Sure.. no film can be totally fresh and original, but branding a film as a "Remake" is something that is very negative at this point in cinema. Nearly always.. the originals are better( especially 70s and 80s ones ) .. because cinema was already very advanced by those decades.

If Nicolas Cage plays RoboCop, it will be hilarious I can imagine some crazy producer choosing Christian Bale. My choice would be someone who has a similar vibe to Peter Weller, because he fit the role perfectly.

In the Original the lead actors face was only ever seen for about 10 minutes anyway, they really just needed someone who was likeable and then that was it.

If they are talking about Chris Pine doing it then theres no problem, as he is very likeable.

Its true that Robocop does in no way need a remake, There are only a couple of FX based scenes that do not hold up well, the rest of the film is still fantastic. I'm not sure why they are bothering really.

Chris Pine is too good looking, being likeable is not enough IMHO.

Alex Murphy needs to be portrayed by an everyman. He's meant to be devout Irish Catholic and a mild-mannered family man. His psychological profile states he was top of his class at the police academy and possessed a fierce sense of duty. This explains why he didnt join in with the other cops dissatisfaction when he was transferred. Some flipping Abercombie and Fitch reject like Hollywood seems to be rolling out via a conveyor belt is not gonna fit the bill IMHO. This is the reason the Brits are getting so many parts because they can actually ACT as well.

I don't understand what good looks have to do with anything, are there not any good looking everymen? is every good looking person a model rather than a police officer? Why can't a person with the traits you described be good looking as well?

              I dont understand your point.

with zack would be the unsual position of someone actually having to show MORE emotion to play a robot

Pretty much mate and Peter Weller had that look nailed.

Chris Pine? FFS, why not just chuck David Gandy in the role and be done with it.

^That news seems like good news, as long as they can temper the melancholy with some balls-out, bloody, gung ho action, I'll be waiting for this like my next crackpipe.

Are they going for the R certificate with this or aiming for a PG-13? If it's PG-13, they can f*ck right off.

I watched the original last week and the fact that the protagonist and antagonist (and everyone else come to think of it) looked so completely average was noticeable, and in a good way. I want the action scenes to be as violent and gory as a scene from Hostel but I'm expecting Transformers levels of violence.

Not sure what it'll end up as, when it was originally announced the intention was to make it R-Rated but nothing's been mentioned since. They should have the nuts to do it, PG-13 rated Robocop would be like the TV series...

New Detroit criminals it seems have not been brought up on a diet of videogames. Unable to hit the enemy weak spot for massive damage.
