Wood & Others Slam AMC's Sightline Plans - Dark Horizons
AMC have announced plans to introduce tiered ticket pricing in cinemas with pricing based on the line of sight the seat has to the screen, centre seats costing more than those in the sides etc.

Users have kicked off at the move and now so have some actors with Elijah Wood weighing in saying that cinema is supposed to be a shared experience and that the Sightline Initiative is just a way to penalise low income citizens.

Users at the test cinemas have already uncovered that theatres are largely valuing front row seats as low value and jacking up the prices on most of the rest of the room.

Disney is reorganizing its businesses under three core segments - Entertainment, ESPN and Parks, Experiences & Products - as Bob Iger works on restructure.

Disney are to restructure into three columns of business:

      Entertainment
      ESPN & Parks
      Experiences & Products

That restructure will cost 7,000 their jobs

It's also been revealed that Disney+ has experienced a subscribers loss with 2.4m ditching the service

Might not be so bad if the seats at the sides were genuinely cheaper, but obviously, this isn't a way to do that - this is a way to charge more for something most people already get.

The cinema's already expensive. I mean, a standard ticket is £11 these days; you'll pay £35 to take a family of two adults and two kids if you're lucky. Double that if you want to buy 20p's worth of popcorn.

I love the cinema; I always have. But we haven't been much since the pandemic hit (whereas we used to go once a month) but the price-hike of around 40% during the pandemic has just made be reluctant to go back (on top of the "temporary" 40% hike they had to pay for the projectors that could do 3D).

Greggs and a Cinema Pass

At current pricing they literally pay for themselves

Bob Iger is open to selling Hulu

Cate Blanchett and Barry Keoghan, for their performances in Tár and The Banshees of Inisherin, deserved to win. I'm stunned for the accolades Everything Everywhere All at Once has been receiving! It's an entertaining film but its absurdity gets tiresome and it drags...

While I totally agree with their reasons, I wonder if they're going to regret this. I suspect a lot of studios will take this moment, if they do it, to try and replace all but the most irreplaceable with AI.

It’s just a tiny bit too early for that. AI is already incredibly impressive but it’s not at the level of replacing any real scriptwriters yet, at least not in any good way. It will be soon, I’m sure of that. And I know some are trying but they need real working (not striking) writers to wrangle, edit and rewrite the results. But I feel AI is not quite ready for it to take on film and TV.

The late night talk show circuit has immediately come to a halt and in addition the writing rooms for shows such as Yellowjackets, Big Mouth, Abbott Elementary and the final season of Cobra Kai have all closed their doors

A good article on why the writers are striking and the threat of AI here:
Artificial intelligence could be the most important part of a writers strike, for reasons bigger than show business.

I think a lot of people think that AI is incapable of writing a proper script still (see below), but I genuinely think the studios will use this opportunity to see how much they can get away with.
