Spiral: From the Book of Saw aka Saw IX hugely underperformed against expectations showing audience won't just turn up for anything in a post-pandemic buzz. The biggest test since Godzilla vs Kong, Fast and Furious 9 opens in a few days in its first markets and is estimated to be set to take in $150m in its initial push. The film will be a real marker in cinema reopenings and if it falls short it could have a real impact on other major releases planning to hit the market soon.

A Quiet Place Part II opened very strongly this week to an opening haul of $80m which wasn't a million miles behind the original film considering the vastly different market conditions between the two.
Whilst Cruella opened to $42m which isn't seen as too bad considering it also opened day and date on Disney+
Spiral: The Book of Saw continued its slow march, making its way to $27m worldwide this week
The Universal tentpole is projected to finish its China run with $211 million — a big number but just a little more than half as much as 'The Fate of the Furious' earned in China in 2017.
However, in China Fast and Furious 9 finally saw the franchises market collapse there after a strong opening, its second week takings coming in at just $20m with the film now projected to have a lifetime gross there well behind the seventh and eighth entries. A Quiet Place: Part II continued to do solid business in its second week seeing its global tally rise to $138m
But was knocked back by The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It which opened to a world haul of $57.1m. That figure was heavily down on the first two entries but given the pandemic situation and the films simultaneous launch on HBO Max it took in more than it was expected to.
In its 14th week at the cinema Raya and the Last Dragon is only just up to a global tally of $118.5m
Whilst Fast and Furious 9's early releases now see it reach $255m

Peter Rabbit 2 is mostly open everywhere now and sits at $68m, hopefully it doesn't get much further and helps stem the spread of James Corden movie appearances.
A Quiet Place Part II did monster business seeing its tally rise to $201m worldwide and already past halfway to matching the gross of the original film
The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It is now up to $112m, the film dropped off pretty steadily but is notably also available to stream for free on HBO Max.
Cruella has beating the dogs up to $130m
Whilst Fast and Furious 9 stalled hard this week rising only slightly to $270m however the film still has many major launches ahead of it.

The fourth of July weekend kept fuel in the tank for Fast and Furious 9 with its global haul rising to $500m which puts it as the highest grossing pandemic era movie.
Universal scored a second hit by taking the second place at box office as well with the release of Boss Baby: Family Business which launched to $24m. This was half of the first films tally but it also launched the same day on Peacock, the streaming service and the studio is already eyeballing a third entry.
Completing Universals hat trick of dominance, they scored the third place as well with The Forever Purge. The fifth and final entry opened to $19m with the films budget at $18m it should prove another easy win for the studio.
Outside of that A Quiet Place: Part II is now at $257m
While at the lower end of success sits The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard at $47m after three weeks.
