Yeah... Honestly, this is a disturbing look at a chilling future.

In The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien explains the fall of Gondor's civilisation as the point at which they placed more value in the dead more than the living. No-one likes to see the actors they love grow old, retire, and eventually die, but it's part of the way of things.

The point at which studios could choose to just use AI versions of established actors, it's over. A Tom Cruise who costs next to nothing, is compelled to do exactly what you say, can't talk back to you and can't be involved in a scandal? That's the point the serpent eats its tail.

Seems it was abit more involved than pure A.I. generated slop. They had actor with prosthetics to mould their face in to Shatners shape then used A.I. on top of that. I don't have much nostalgia for the 1st Next Gen film as it is pretty terrible, but this did get me little tingly in the nose despite knowing what it is and what it could herald for future ST.

The "Star Trek: Section 31" Reviews Are In - Dark Horizons
          And it's not pretty

I'll still give it a watch as Georgiou was a good character and Yeoh does a good job portraying her. I thought this was a series actually, hadn't realised it was a movie.

Well it's not great - the characters are quite interesting, but the plot drags with very little actually happening, but the worst thing and something that makes it very hard to watch is the editing. It's like the editor cutting it together had ADHD, some of the dialogue scenes have camera cuts every two seconds with constant push-ins inbetween and it's so distracting from the actual dialogue that I got to the point I nearly turned it off.

It's like someone sat you in a box to watch the movie and then that someone keeps shaking the box as you're trying to do so. Mid. Very mid, bordering on bad.

It's kinda both. It's one of those movies divided into chapters that I'm pretty sure were originally episodes.

"Section 31" Made Because "'Star Trek' Is Dying" - Dark Horizons
If it's dying, it needs the films to come back and increase exposure

That's such an odd take. Basically, Trek is dying therefore let's make something we know that nobody will like. Or... just focus on making a damn good film with core Trek values that people will actually like or make a very good series, again leaning into the strengths, and not have it locked to Paramount+.

                        That's the thing.

"Trek's dying so we made Section 31."
