Caught wind of there being an imminent second season of The Devil's Hour (Prime), so last week we watched the first. Arguable bait and switch given how prominent Capaldi is in the ads and then isn't until a good way into the series, but Jessica Raine as the actual lead is fab, so no complaints. It's a smart crime thriller that has an added edge that I think is best experienced first hand, but what I will say is that I enjoyed a lot more than I was expecting to. Very glad I get to go straight into the second season while it's still very much fresh in my mind, though I hear a third season's already in the works, by which time I'll have forgotten everything.

I finally got around to finishing S2 of The Bear. My God this is seriously awesome television. I cannot believe how long it took me to finish it off. There are so many moments of pure magic. The series kept getting better and better as it went on. By the time it got to Fishes and Forks, it was absolutely humming. Acting, writing and direction are all outstanding - no wonder it won so many awards. Forks was my favourite but the last episode came bloody close.

The entire cast get to shine, but I must say Jon Bernthal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jeremy Allen White have some truly amazing scenes. The supporting and guest cast get on the act, the scene with Pete and Donna (Jaime Lee Curtis amazing) outside the restaurant, Olivia Colman's cameo, Will Poulter's cameo are all amazing.

To be honest I wasn't sure if they could top Season 1 but they did it. I have to temper my expectations for Season 3 it cannot possibly top this.

We finished off Nightsleeper (BBC iPlayer) and really enjoyed it.
It's preposterous and far-fetched, but it gave me strong 24 vibes with bluffs, double-bluffs red herrings to throw you off the scent and we were guessing all the way through to the end. You never know who you can trust.

Joe Cole was great in Gangs of London and this, but the rest of the cast are perfect for their roles.

          Rings of power,

What absolute hot steaming crap this turned into, I just can’t even right now, it takes everything you love about Tolkien and upper deckers it from 2miles up.

I wish I could burn this filth from my memory forever.

I watched the first 3 episodes of Like a Dragon: Yakuza last night with the misses and we enjoyed it! Looking forward to more next week.

Well hey, I liked S2 of The Devil's Hour too! Feel like I've heard very few people talking about this and that is a shame. There's a third season coming, and it is absolutely the kind of show with the level of detail where you'll want something beyond the two minute recap at the start of the new season, so maybe hang back? But it is absolutely worth your time.

Also got my arm twisted into watching Rivals before we pull the plug on Disney+ again, which is about various different flavours of arsehole struggling for TV production dominance in the 80s. It's adapted from a Jilly Cooper book, and therefore features a lot of shagging. Not really my thing. One scene with -

              - felt like too broken an idea for my brain to process.

Watched the first episode of Like a Dragon and am pretty unconvinced - will stick it out, though!

                    Rivals
I enjoyed it but there's an element of still feeling a little on the fence with it. It has a distinct air of being the kind of thing that only needed a single season and the other issue is that it's a little too focused on making the characters be such ****s with each other that it's hard to root for someone. There's a background character who comes to the fore mid-series and you're a little puzzled as to why, they then have quite a dark scene which is a key plot device for one of the main characters. The character is then shunted right back into the background and it feels a little bit of a low blow to use them like that. The main two, Rupert and Aggie, are a bit of an awkward mixture too. The entire dynamic has an eye rolling Twilight/Fifty Shades air to it with him being way too old and 'I can fix him' natured but the show necessitates that he continually feel bad when he see's her but continue to do bad things to maintain the arc which just makes Aggie seem pretty dim witted. Jen from IT and - can't believe I'm saying it - Danny Dyer end up being the only characters in the show I felt I was rooting for. We'll definitely watch the second run but I can picture how easily it would go off the rails too.

Finished Like a Dragon: Yakuza. Really enjoyed it. I am one of a few who did. I pray for a second season.

Anyone watching The Diplomat on Netflix? Partner watched S1 on her own but was happy enough to rewatch it with me so we could go into the second series (just released) together. I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. She sold it to me by name dropping The West Wing, and whereas this dips its toes a bit closer into the thriller category, mixing in shades of foreign intelligence a la Homeland, it does do the same thing where it paints a picture of senior US and UK diplomatic representatives as being pin-sharp, two steps ahead, compassionate, generally very forward thinking people trying to do the right thing for the world at large. So yes, it's about as accurate as a rifle being held the wrong way around, but given CURRENT EVENTS it is making for some quite nice escapism.

I loved the first season, haven't started season 2 yet, though I am looking forward to it.

                            Agatha All Along
It wears Marvel's clear cost cutting on its sleeve, it's nowhere near the visual quality of some of their other shows and is much more typical looking. It's a surprisingly good follow up to WandaVision however, they do a decent job of telling a villains story without resorting to pulling a Loki redemption arc.

                              What If? Season 02
Starts off much weaker than the first season did but as it approaches the halfway mark it finds its feet again and broadly finishes solidly

Finished this current series of Taskmaster (C4) and it's been brilliant to the point where we were waiting for the next episode after catching up and watching the finale as it was broadcast.

Usual deal where you start knowing of one or two contestants, but by the end, you're used to their quirks and can guess how they'll take on a task. I don't think it works as effectively if you dip into random episodes.

I have to talk about Rosie Jones and how the show handled her disability. Basically, they didn't make many changes, with Alex helping on the occasional task, but the beauty of it was they really didn't make much of a big deal about it, so it ended up where her disability was almost forgotten as she ended up being hilarious throughout.

So much so that one of my fave moments was where one team of three aced a challenge to balance tennis balls on the cow statue, but Jack Dee and Rosie struggled as she held a bit of bendy pipe and he loaded it up, but the balls kept falling out. In the studio, they were discussing about how they didn't do very well and Rosie had to remind them "I've got ****ing cerebral palsy!" and another contestant, Emma Sidi broke the awkwardness by countering "You did choose a very bendy bit of pipe..."
Probably makes more sense in context, but I thought they did really well at just cracking on with the tasks, rather than making them easier.

Started on Junior Taskmaster with the kids, but it's nowhere near as funny.
Need to watch a couple of episodes, so that you start getting to know the contestants like with the main show.

We also watched The Wheel (BBC), which is gameshow nonsense, but very entertaining. I aced the Heavy Metal questions, obviously.
