I can remember a cyber punk type one where a woman makes a sculpture from old robot parts and it comes to life. No idea of the name, it was a bit like a thriller horror.

Watching Critters 2 right now, never seen any beyond the first and it's top quality. Plenty of excellent Critter terminations, just saw one boil in chip fat.

Myself, just watched Chris Walken in COMMUNION...currently doing the rounds - as practically always for me - on The Horror Channel.

It's a bit unshocking and dated (this is a 1989 film where the concept of alien abduction hadn't been fully exploited yet). It's kinda trippy and kinda dullish at the same time but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Lovin' them kobolds!

If anything, this is a quintessential, vintage Chris Walken on top form. He's really quirky and animated and natural and half of his lines seem improvised, and in a good way. And his wife is gorge.

A very good Chris Walken flick, especially when considering THE KING OF NEW YORK, which came out the same year.

Dont expect fireworks...but DO expect Walken.

PS [MENTION=5490]wakka[/MENTION] EVILSPEAK is bloody great!!!! But don't bother with the extended cut, it just adds scenes in with no sound a lot of the time and it looks a bloody mess.

Skyfall - I did enjoy this last night. It's beautifully made, absolutley stunning to look at ... but it does lack some of the qualities of Casino Royale imo. Maybe I need to stop expecting every Daniel Craig Bond film to live up to that one ... they really did start his run on a high there. Maybe I was too critical of QoS, which is really the conclusion of Casino Royale. I am enjoying this bond run, honest, I'm just slightly guilty if wanting them all to be the same film. Only Spectre to go.

I watched Kickboxer with VanDamme. I had never seen it before. It’s cheesy and poorly acted but it has a charm to it. The real highlights though are the locations and the soundtrack. Together, they’re really beautiful in places and I reckon the soundtrack is one of the best of its day. I’ve never really understood VanDamme’s fascination with doing the splits but I guess who am I to judge?

Another Saturday morning monster movie, this time The Birds - It's been a while since I saw this one, purely because I'm careful not to over-watch Hitchcock's films as he's my fave and I don't want to spoil the experience. So since a VHS/dvd era watch things have certainly changed for the better because the 4K UHD release is incredible. It just looks amazing. Watching films like this back in the 90s I never thought I could one day watch them at this standard. Surely it's close to peaking with how great it'll ever look. Aside from the format though I really enjoyed it, and The Birds was never a massive favourite, it just really clicked (clucked ) this time. The salty sea dog setting of Bodega Bay is class, and Tippi Hedren puts in a great performance for someone who wasn't really an actor. Some genuinely unsettling scenes too, like when the birds are just gathering and observing ... and one death scene was surprisingly shocking. Great to have watched a couple of Hitch classics over the past week.

Thanks to my daughter, I've seen Frozen 2 about a million times and on each viewing it gets worse and worse. I'd say its one of Disneys worst films. It's an absolute mess.
There is an incredibly thin objective for the characters that makes no sense. I don't think it's ever shown who the siren is making the song, there just is one. Water holding memories is a plot device that never existed in the previous film and exists now just to explain stuff.
Kristoff has no purpose in the film so they've thrown in the marriage stuff just to give him a reason, only for him to be dropped completely from act 2 & 3.
The songs carry no weight and even the composition is flaccid.
You can say it's just a kids film, but technically so was Lion King and Aladdin and they piss on this from a great height.
Its a terrible terrible film.

Just my two measly cents but I don’t think saying something is a kids film should ever be an excuse for something being terrible. That said, sometimes we adults are just not the audience and that’s okay. But in the case of Frozen 2, it’s a family film so I don’t think it gets a free pass.

I always preferred Bloodsport because its much brighter and more fun, but Kickboxer did have a really nice soundtrack. I think Hot Shots 2 parodies the dipping gloves in glass bit. VD did love showing his splits, and his backside too. The outside scenery is great during the training scenes. Still a very cheesy film with quite a few sequels I never saw and probably never will.

Yes, there was that moment where I grinned and said, oh that’s where that Hot Shots scene comes from! I got it on blu ray with the 2016 reboot so I might give that a watch some day.

^BLOODSPORT has been my fave JCVD movie for ages, although it's been many years since I've seen it now. Been so long I'm questioning whether it stars that beardy bloke with the crazy eyes from THE REVENGE OF THE NERDS...??? I *think* it did...


...anyhow, been too long since I've seen it. I'm just scared I'll find it gash, next time I do!!!

Bloodsport is still huge fun and enjoyable viewing as long as you don't take it seriously. Shame about the real Frank Dux, quite sad, although the text at the end of the film made me think he must have been some elite ninja warrior when I was a kid. The soundtrack is excellent if a bit cheesy.
