I've been waiting for 4K release but no signs. The Blu-Ray for I-VIII is very cheap though for what you get, just a pain having them treated separately between the BBC and Dave eras.

Apparently the Blade Runner thing was aimed as a nod to the shows conception when Grant and Naylor where inspired by the film but it's such a late and clumsy deep cut that it misses the mark completely especially when everyone had waited a decade for some new eps. In part two though I did enjoy the guy in the shop who runs the fanclub

Especially as they walk in to the shop and it looks as if the guy is getting down to some tunes. Dave then askes "listening to music?" to which the shop keeper simply replies "no". Everyone just stairs with a WTF look on their faces

Episode 55 - Back to Earth Part Three
Driving via a Smart car made to look like Starbug, the crew visit Listers real life counterpart on the set of Coronation Street only to find out that they are soon to complete filming their final episode. Wanting more life they hunt down their Creator before realising their true predicament leaving Lister to choose whether to return to Red Dwarf or remain where he can be with a version of Kochanski. Though the response to the three episodes was mixed it was a huge hit for Dave and the path to the shows return would now begin, though this episode would also be Annett and Kochanski's final appearance.

Did Red Dwarf IX finish on a high or a low?

Going to throw this out there - the Starbug Smart-Car was the best thing about this three-parter.

According to the Red Dwarf Fan Page on Facebook, Naylor had to buy the car himself because there wasn't a budget for it.
Someone near Brands Hatch used to own it.

"I remember this being in a props auction house parking lot In a village near Milton Keynes. At the time I asked about buying the thing but was told the engine was totalled and the chassis was rusted through. Someone must have restored it a bit. Fun fact the rockets had been removed and attached to a Mr whippy ice cream van in the same vehicle lot lol."

Naylor said it was sold at auction.

I imagine it sold quick but it's nowhere near as fun without the add-on bits

                  Episode 56 - Trojan
Thirteen years after the last full series of the show and three years after the prior episode aired, the show finally began its tenth series with this opening episode that saw Red Dwarf's set finally returned to a more grungier appearance closer to the early 90's era of the show. In this episode Lister and Cat find themselves caught up dealing with a telemarketing line after buying a drink stirrer. Meanwhile Kryten and Rimmer look into a derelict ship they have discovered that draws another ship in containing a hologram of Rimmer's brother Howard. The resentment by Rimmer causes his light bee to crash and so he prepares to pretend to Howard that he has been much more successful in his career than he really has. Model shots returned and the episode was broadly taken as an indicator that the show was headed back in the right direction after the long years and past three series.

A great comeback or something that filled you with resentment?

I know I watched this, but don't remember a single thing about it. I also know this was the point that I checked out. Been waiting to see these episodes show up on a streaming service people actually use, so-far haven't seen them.

I think UKTV Play is the only site you can stream them because of the ownership but if it helps its very easy to navigate and I think has every single episode of the show for free

The quality bell curve heads up from here also

I was about to say exactly the same thing!

Saw this about two months ago on BluRay while doing the entire series marathon. I do like this series, a true return to how the show was before all that prison ship crap.

Episode 57 - Fathers and Suns
Knowing that Lister is his own father since Red Dwarf VII, he reveals that each year he writes himself a Father's Day card before getting so drunk that he forgets he wrote one and then receives it to open as a father from a son the next day each year. Feeling that he has failed to do much with his life and hasn't been proactive enough in locating Kochanski, this year he sets about dealing with his wayward self/son. Kryten and Rimmer though attempt to install a new ships computer to replace the damaged and offline Holly. The episode proved to be a well received second effort for the new series.

Was this latest episode Pree-tty good?

Pri, I didn't care for but I loved Dave talking to Farther Dave on the video. Those sections were funny, especially from a scoucer's point of view.
