    Episode 29 - Demons & Angels
When Kryten creates a replicator to try and resolve food shortages on the ship, the experiment goes wrong causing a chain reaction that forces the crew to abandon ship just before Red Dwarf self destructs. As the debris drifts away they realise that two copies of the ship now exist, one divine in every way and the other being its worse equivalent. Even more worrying is that both ships contain copies of the crew too. The episode received a mix response though in one model shot the Tardis can been seen in Starbugs landing bay as a cheeky easter egg.

Where does the episode rest in your Series 5 ranking?

It's okay, but I think this is one episode where the cast had more fun than the audience, if I'm honest.

I don't know man, the camp Rimmer still makes me laugh. I do wish more was done with the evil lister though. Saying that, the spider eating scene was nasty. Yuck.

Rimmer is easily the best one, but the rest was a bit forgettable.
Maybe I'll post again when we finally get to this point in our rewatch!

I feel like Cat is the one where they put the least amount of effort into his alt-forms, there's nothing really to him in either form. I remember wondering what the hell was going on the first time I saw it and Red Dwarf actually blew up. According to wiki they recorded that shot at 3,000 frames per second just to get a few seconds decent footage for the shot.

              Wait, what?
              Resolved, but not together?
              Two different output sources?

That really does sound like the cast will be working on two different versions of the show which is really odd. I know Grant said a while back that they'd signed a deal with Dave to make more so presumably one of the pair will use the cast to make Red Dwarf XIV whilst the other will use the cast to make... an alternate Red Dwarf XIV somewhere else?

Getting the cast availability was already difficult, as was someone to commission a new run so I'm really not sure how this will work. That's before any controversy arising from one version ending up better received than the other.

In an ideal world they would just email each other notes so they didn't step on each others toes and each make independent seasons. Like when Series XI and Series XII were made but one tackles one independent of the other making the other. This is just... odd. Still, presumably we'll find out more before the year is out because Grant and Ed Bye were very keen to get things rolling quickly originally so have already lost two years.

I feel like that probably means one person on TV, another doing things like audiobooks or something and so on. Not two people making separate Red Dwarf TV shows with the same cast. That would be really weird and unheard of, outside of that one Sean Connery James Bond film maybe.

                  But who knows.

Possibly, it just seems odd as the non-series media for Dwarf is very limited and late in the game to be doing at this point. It was all a massive furore as well if it was so one of them could make a book again or audio episode whilst the other gets to make the series. I'm going to assume Naylor is making Red Dwarf XIV out of this, it seems hard to imagine he'd settle for less. Just hoping it's not mega-far off and not another special either.

Episode 30 - Back to Reality
The final episode to feature Hattie Hayridge as Holly, the crew explore a wrecked ship on the bed of an ocean moon discovering the suicides of everyone on board. Following an attack by a Despair Squid, they wake up to discover they have spent four years of their lives within a VR game and that they aren't who they thought they were. The episode was the first written for this series and deep dove into the sci-fi concepts as Grant and Naylor believed at the time that Series V was going to be the final series as the cast had begun to find success in other series. The episode is considered to be one of the best the show ever made and pushed its popularity to new heights at the potentially closing hour.

One of the best the show ever made or only for Twonks?

When this broke they said that more news was imminent but wouldn't go beyond that but it looks like it's true. Things must be moving fast to have everyone together already.

Obviously, it only works if you're invested in the show and care/know about the characters, but yeah, this was brilliant television.
So many great moments of both comedy and science fiction in just 30 minutes!

                              Episode 31 - Psirens
Having gone from expecting the show to end at the end of the last series, the cast and crew were thrown into chaos when the BBC greenlit a sixth series and pushed hard for new episodes to be made as quickly as possible. Having come back to the show so quickly Grant and Naylor decided it was time to mix up the set up and so the show opens 200 years after the previous series with Red Dwarf now missing along with Holly, the show set on Starbug instead and it now having a connecting arc to follow. Attempting to catch up with the ship the crew cut through a field of asteroids populated by Psirens, creatures that attempt to lure you in to feed on your brain.

As appealing to you as Pete Tranters sister?
