You know I would. Makes no sense that they didn’t look in a bin for more ammunition.

I've seen Alien Romulus twice as well. It's a really fun movie. I love the sequence where
the gravity is disabled and they shoot the aliens then have to navigate through the floating blood.
I also think it does a great job of heaping layer after layer of peril onto the cast. It's very lean, too. No fat.
Cool movie.

Joker: Foleys are Due
IMAXed this yesterday, and it tested the increasing goodwill I have towards films as I get older
If how the film plays out was meant to bring fans of the Joker character down a peg or two, that’s fine. But as someone who loved the first film while in no way idolising the Joker character, I didn’t much appreciate being caught in the crossfire.
It’s definitely a looker, and I enjoyed the musical numbers (especially the Kath and Kim Joker song).
It was alright, but I won’t pretend that the discounted ticket (£4) and not having been to the cinema since Dune 2 skewed my opinion somewhat.

Magic Cop - one of those revamped 88Films Blu-Rays.
Yeah, s'alright. Loads of preposterous magic rules about ghosts, but a cop, who knows loads about it gets drawn into a mysterious case where zombies are being used as drug mules.
Best bit is the spiritual battle at the end, but I think Spooky Encounters is loooooads better as it has a solid helping of Sammo fights too.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (Prime purchase)
I'm pretty busy this week, so squeezed my annual viewing of the best Halloween film.
Was looking for just how many women Dr. Challis flirts with and I noticed for the first time that Betty Kupfer, the wife of the guy who's sold the most masks, also gazes longingly ever time they're on screen together. What a guy.

Oh I forgot, as family, we watched Potter 4, Goblet of Fire (Blu-Ray) - the Triwizard Tournament one.
They start getting dark from this one onward, so we've put off watching it for a while.
She still found the end section pretty full-on (hands cut off, blood letting, ghosts) but she enjoyed it.
I couldn't get over how ridiculously dangerous the whole tournament was.
They're all banging on about how people have died previously, but run it anyway.
Potter didn't put his name in, but there was no way he could back out - what?
Then everyone is a bit surprised when it starts getting fatal - "how could this have happened?!"
Love the whole dance section though as all the kids and even Hagrid are all really awkward.
Felt the animosity with Ron was a bit forced though. Ginger bellend.

Just watched Purple Rain for the first time in God knows how long!
No, the acting and the storyline really doesn't hold up after 40 years (and I doubt it did so back in 1984). Prince himself is the culprit for a lot of that - the attempt to elicit sympathy for the poor home life of his character "The Kid" (loosely based on his own IRL background) only serves in retrospect to highlight how problematic the character actually was/is (read: manipulative behaviour, misogyny and domestic violence).
All of that said...the titular LP that serves as the soundtrack definitely still holds up as a bonafide 1980s classic - the absolute highpoint of The Purple One's musical collaboration with The Revolution and arguably a highpoint that he himself failed to get near again in his career. And yes, the climactic scene performance of the title song at the end is still epic after all this time.
Not a brilliant movie (especially after four decades passing) but definitely a brilliant soundtrack/LP.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 28-10-2024, 22:36.

Gave 1994's Wolf a spin last night, became a homely fave in recent years I love this one. More a dark romance than a horror, you won't find gnarly transformation sequences. But what you do get is a superb cast, and a story revolving around primal instincts and power struggles. Spader is also double creepy.

As it's spooky season my horror playlist is in full swing a mix of J horror and western stuff mostly classics but today is a really odd one that i love.A strange film called Cursed Chô kowai hanashi A: yami no karasu. It came to uk DVD as cursed, a story about a haunted conveni that has alsorts of messed up stuff happening inside however if you go in and buy anything and the total of the items are a multiple number then one of the spirits will follow you home and finish you off, the film revolves around the unlucky individuals that get targeted, it's low buget & really strange theme make it a guilty pleasure of mine the plot is non existent just a mix of interconnected spooky goings on but i love it.
The stange creature that lives in the shadows of the drinks chiller but also hangs out in the toilet too
Scary fridge lady, this is one of the sadder stories.
Someones uploaded the full film to youtube hehe

A couple of us went to a mate's house as he has a Shudder subscription.
Loads on there I wanted to see, but he's seen almost all the good stuff as soon as it dropped.
However, he'd held off a couple that have been getting decent reviews, including Daddy's Head, but we watched Oddity, which is an Irish horror about a murder in a remote barn conversion and it's pretty clear cut who did it. OR IT IT? A psychic visits to find out the truth once and for all.
Some spooky moments and a story to unravel, but we worked most of it out and it was a bit cliched, if I'm honest.
Then we watched V/H/S/84 and that was more my bag, but by that point I was flagging and definitely dozed off a couple of times as I've been burning the candle at both ends.
I've seen the first two VHS films and love the format, with "Safe Haven" my clear fave.
This one ditches the overarching story, but has a couple of overlapping stories.
Although it wasn't anything amazing, I really like the V/H/S method of several short stories that never outstay their welcome or have to find yet another way to bring Freddy/Jason/Michael/Jigsaw back from the dead. I think my fave bits were the shootouts, which felt a bit like The Terminator, especially with that VHS fuzz on the screen.
I might get Shudder next October as there's loads of decent horror on there.
