Night of the Living Dead (1990), Tom Savini remake, mixed emotions about this. Not entirely unentertaining, and a slick running time at 88 minutes. Doesn't stray far from the original and seems a bit redundant, elevated by decent performances from the always top Tony Todd and Patricia Tallman turning from scream queen to badass

      31 Nights of Horror - Night 24
      We Are Still Here
Seemingly high praise is a bit misplaced here, this film skirts made for streaming levels and just about holds you to the end. A mourning couple buy an old house in 1979 which kills its occupants every 30 years. The local township help make sure this happens to protect themselves. Not much happens for the most part and when it does you've seen it before.

We got back early enough to fit in another horror last night keeping us fairly on track for around 40 in 31 nights.

        The Funhouse
It was a whole lotta fun, no prizes to be won, a real wacky show where anything could go. Four teens hide in a carnival funhouse because for some reason they think that would be hilarious (and want some hanky panky) and witness a murder. Soon they find themselves being hunted by the monsterous figure and unable to escape the attraction. It's actually not that great a film but it just about holds your attention to the end due to the weirdness it has in places.
Can only imagine that they had to use their body and their brain if they wanted to win the game.

Think most on here will - the Grant Twins were on TV all through the 90s. I'm 33 and I used to watch Funhouse every week as kid

Given how young you are, I (respectfully) assume you watched reruns?

You couldn't possibly have watched the original airings of Fun House...I was 7 when it began in 1989 and 17 when it ended ten years later (had long stopped watching by then!) - were you even born then??

Nope. Most people using this forum are older than you think they are. They'll know!

I stand corrected. I keep thinking you're much younger!

EDIT: I'm that old (41) that my memory is starting to play up!!

                          It's Horrctober, so:

                          His House

Sudanese refugees are granted asylum and a house in disrepair. The door's broken, there's roaches in the pizza box, and ghosts living in the walls!

I enjoyed it. It had human drama, played with light switches to great effect, and moved along briskly(unlike an asylum application).

QC recommended this. It was great, with lots of jumps. The entire film takes place during a seance conducted over Zoom, and does great work within its limitations. It's an hour long so I managed to watch it during my lunch break. After the credits, there's a recording of an actual seance the cast/crew performed which is spooky in its own right!

                          John Wick 4

Or as I like to call it, Keeanu Reeves 4.

Before I explain that, indulge me for a moment: JW4 finally released in Japan last month, and by god I was going to see it in the cinema even if I had to crawl across the Ikebukuro pavements to get there. It was a Sunday morning showing and I overslept, plus it was super duper rainy and I suddenly had a splitting headache as I jogged to the train station and had to turn back home for paracetamol (and to change my shoes that got drenched in a huge puddle). I was thinking this film had better be flipping amazing after the crap I went through. I got to the cinema late and missed the first 10-15 minutes.

Ok, back to Keeanu Reeves 4:

Listen. People often complain that Keeanu just plays Keeanu, Michael Cera just plays Michael Cera, Jesse Eisenberg just plays Jesse Eisenberg, etc, and that's fair enough.

But, you know what? Partway through this film, the John Wick character suddenly melted away and standing in his places was Keeanu Reeves. I was never particularly enamoured with the JW character - the supporting characters are much more interesting - so this didn't even pull me out of the film. In fact, it did the opposite. The work he'd clearly put into the action and stunts was right there on the screen. Keeanu was a ****ing beast.

Also, he single-handedly vindicated an entire generation of nerds who thought nunchuks were cool.

                          They are cool.

                            Jigsaw
The eighth Saw movie, I remember this being fairly stand alone and poor. On rewatch it turns out it's actually very much an eighth entry tied in with the rest of the franchise and whilst it's not a great entry it's mostly at a filmmaking level. More time in the oven and this could have at least sat well with the other latter sequels.

                            House
A man inherits his recently deceased Aunt's house and strange things begin to unfold leading to the discovery of a portal to another world. Like many horrors this received several sequels suggesting a starting point of some considerable quality but it was another guffer.

Is that House from the ‘80s with Norm from Cheers? I like that film. It’s fun. The sequel is fun too. The third entry is an oddity in that I don’t think it was meant to be a House film. It’s attempting to be a proper horror film. But then they made a fourth that is back to business as usual. Can’t remember if that was any good or not.

Yep, it never feels like it commits to either being tongue in cheek or horror so didn't land with us. It's always a struggle to nail the intent with some of these films as well when they're older ones, it might just be the reflection of the age also like how I've never been sold on the legacy of The Exorcist as the film holds zero suspense for me.
