Has anyone seen Higurashi no Naku Koro ni? It starts off with a very dark hard to make out scene of a young man beating someone to death with a bat then after the OP continues as any school harem comedy with usual stereotypes.

It starts getting creepier as the main character Keiichi (the young man from the first scene???) who's only been in the village a month starts finding out about murders that happened years ago. Nobody will talk about it when questioned and his friends start acting stranger and stranger. It seems to be told in chunks, I'm up to episode 5 now which went back in the timeline to start a new part of story. Something which still plays on my mind from the first episode is when Keiichi accompanies one of the girls, Rena to a rubbish tip she likes to explore. He meets a photographer who asks what Rena is doing to which he replies "Who knows, maybe she's checking out the corpse she chopped up". The story's still at an innocent stage so that should just be a joke but you know that this isn't any old comedy.

Urgh, it really started giving me the creeps but I'm loving it!

Okay, Bokura Ga Ita, it's probably too cute for me so I have no business watching it but is there anything like it that's set around outcasts of the school? You see so many of these where the main characters are the popular ones that everyone worships, I'd like to see romance between some losers

Keeping up with Nana but I'm losing the love I had for it at first,

Hachi has totally fallen apart and is allowing herself to be practically raped? She'd probably never get over an abortion but she should definitely have nothing with to do with Takumi, **** his money.

I'm not too sure how kuru hana's font is going to come out on the TV if burnt to DVD but I'm only burning it so a friend can check it out anyway so it's not a huge problem.

Man, you really should spoiler tag some of that stuff like you did with the Nana stuff. That's like some of the best moments in the first few episodes right there. I know I'd be sort of pissed if I had read someones untagged spoilers before watching. The wtfness makes the series what it is IMO. Yet to see it to the end as I'm still waiting on Triad to finish subbing it (only 6 more to go after which I'll marathon the remaining eps I haven't seen) but I really liked what I saw of it.

I'll have to check the kuro-hana subs out some time but I'm usually always hesitant when it comes to such quick releases. Still I haven't seen 16 or 17 yet so there's no rush.

I didn't think anything I said really gave anything away, nothing you wouldn't learn from just the first episode anyway.

Well that was the point. You'd have to watch the first ep to find out that stuff but you posted it in plain sight so anyone new to the series wouldn't need to. Especially that opening scene. Well anyway, whatever, I'm not going to argue further on what is and isn't a spoiler. I guess I shouldn't have said anything.

Naruto Shippuuden ep1-2 aka back to the manga storyline

Was it me or was that first scene not part of the first volume or so of part 2 in the manga? It's been a while since I read the first two or three volumes of part 2 but I certainly don't recall that bit. Regardless the animation in that bit was lovely. The rest of the ep less so but better than I was used to from past Naruto eps. Overall I'm very pleased with it, good to have the show back on track. They changed some stuff that I remember from the manga but nothing outrageous IMO. Loved the BGM, and overall the whole episode gave me a nostalgic feeling. Made me remember some of the stuff I used to love about Naruto way back. Can't wait for the action to really get going

You've got to give away some part of a show so people have an idea what it's about. Especially in a thread such as this where people might be looking for something that interests them. Do you never read reviews of anything before seeing it? There are the occasional film I don't want to know anything about before seeing, including watching the trailer.

You sound so afraid of differing opinions, of course there's nothing wrong with you suggesting something should be spoilerised! I went back and tagged most of it, but I have to leave some because the title gives nothing away. I'd rather people watched the series than just gloss over a meaningless title.

Sure I read about stuff beforehand. But it's usually not about what happens in episodes like the aforementioned opening scene of Higurashi ep 1. I usually read general overviews of a storyline such as those found on anidb entries for shows. I try as much as possible to spoiler tag events that happen in an episode and plot revelations etc...

For example for Higurashi I would have said maybe something along the lines of: It's a mystery thriller with supernatural elements set in a small tight knit community which is basically located in the middle of nowhere. It follows Keichi, a boy who moved to this community fairly recently, as he uncovers things about this community's dark past that they don't want outsiders to know about. Strange things start happening around him and he begins to fear for the worst...

The episodes themselves flip between cutesy comedy moments with chibi-style/super deformed animation and more serious and creepy moments with relatively realistic animation. The japanese VAs do a good job of switching between styles to fit the mood. In particular look out for the performance of Rena's VA Nakahara Mai in the opening story arc.

If you are into this sort of genre I would highly recommend watching this and even if you're not, give episode 1 a shot and see how you get on. As IMO the series really nails the creepy, wtf-is-going-on style atmosphere. The cutesy comedy moments only help to provide a stark contrast to this atmosphere and add even more to the wtfness of the show. One of the better shows of 2006 IMO, well worth checking out!

I've nothing against differing opinions, what I meant by that "I shouldn't have said anything" line was that I probably shouldn't be lecturing someone on spoiler tagging when I've no doubt made the same mistakes myself earlier in the thread. I should have made that clearer. Apologies for that. Feel free to argue. Makes the thread alot more lively.

Anyway, going back to the naruto subs I used SD's in case anyone was wondering. My opinion is a decent release. Better than DB's I thought even if they (SD) didn't have karaoke effects (might be a factor for some but nothing I particularly have to have). They are also missing a translation for the ED song but I believe they are coming out with a HQ v2 version with extra bells and whistles for those who want it so will probably be included in there. When I was paying attention I noticed one spelling mistake, can't really remember much else wrong with it. Dialogue font was nice, and the subs read well.

The reason I went for them is that I checked out one or two of their D grayman episodes and liked what I saw. Just thought I'd give a heads up to those who were wondering about them. DB would probably be okay too, though I didn't check their version for this episode. Personally I'll be getting whichever one comes out weekly and if that is SD's too then that'll be awesome. If not there's always DB's to fall back on, assuming they do stick to it too.

Just started on Eureka Seven as well as the others I mentioned earlier, was bit a bit skeptical after seeing the opening but I ended up staying up until 1:30am watching it.

Death Note 17-18 are excellent, never thought things would turn the way they have.

it was a bit weird seeing that part first, i guess they just want to hint at the goodness to come, otherwise not a whole lot would have actually happened...just setting up all the storylines to come.
still it was quite shocking how much better it was anyway compared to the recent filler, cant wait for the

                    sakura vs pupett akatsuki guy

                    fight. that should be amazing!

Yep as Fuddle say's it starts off with the end to the 2nd story arc which is a little strange. Loved the new opening, but they some how managed to draw Sakura quite badly at times which annoyed me a bit (mostly the side on views). Still i had a big grin on my face, and i haven't felt this engerised to watch a show in ages(bleach's return to the main story couldn't do it at this level).

As you say *** that fight is the one im most looking forward to outside the

                      Kyuubi Naruto vs Oro

. Now to finish of burning Naruto+it filler to dvd and leaving Shippuuden on its own, also what sub did you get i went for DB but are SD any good?

                      Comment

Thought it was strange that I'd not seen it given that I'd only read up to some of the beginnings of the fights in this first arc. Makes sense that it was from another arc and seems to hint at some good stuff to come. Wonder why they did it though...

Anyway as for subs I mentioned it up the page but SD were pretty decent IMO except for lack of bells and whistles on the release. I suppose it was mainly in the name of speed since they got their version out before even DB did. For me they seemed to have less mistakes in it than the average DB sub and I liked what I saw of SD's stuff for Dgray man eps. End of the day they both seem ok for what they are: above average speed subs and either will do in that regard. We'll see how things are next week. Personally I'll probably get whichever one comes out first next week and then archive a possible AnimeOne release if/when they release. Probably be sticking to that for the rest of the show. Served me well previously.

edit: oh and the video quality was pretty decent too in SD's. I'd have to compare side by side but it seemed to be better than DB's. Hmm... I'll go see if any fansub comparison sites have some screencaps to compare with

i think i'll stick to DB speed releases and replace with Aone then.

i went with DB too, always used them since they started naruto and bleach, i dont notice any problems so i suppose i'll stick with them. unless for some reason they release significantly later. i've been watching SD's grayman though so i'm sure their naruto is pretty good too.

Watched Naruto Shippuuden over the weekend, totally loved it. Its great to see how everyone has developed, but arrgh why did the episode have to end just as it was getting exciting.

Hnngh the trauma of waiting for the next episode.

Loved the opening & ending songs to especially the ending song it was fantastic.

Btw fuddle can you help us out with that yura yura song as i tried searching but couldnt find it anywhere.

Also watched the first 2 naruto movies, prefered the first one over the second. But they were both great films.

Oh btw, I was genuinely asking as people are completely different. Some won't watch a trailer whereas some need the entire plot and what happens at the end before they'll consider watching it.

Your synopsis was a lot better than mine but something I'm not capable of, it's very "official review", I can only manage random spouts of opinion. I tried to say anything that wouldn't have spoilt it for me. Though after that I thought that even saying

the story is retold in different segments is something I didn't know and had to discover.

I can think of a couple of first episodes of different series where if I'd known something from just the 1st episode it would have spoilt it for me but I felt safe with mentioning an open scene. I suppose the only way it could spoil it for you is if you were going into the series expecting a light hearted comedy. But then only your first couple of seconds are spoilt.

Anyway, I'm up to episode 9 I think. I've seen 2 seperate stories.

Now at first I thought it was going to be different parts of the same story told seperately but now I'm thinking it has to be complete retellings of the general story? Only first thought that something was up when in the Cotton Drifting story the woman with the photographer is dead instead of missing. Now I've gotten used to it I'm not getting as eerily creeped out as I was gradually through the first story but there were some more scary bits. The girl's faces when they "go into one", how it doesn't fit the sound, and even when they just sudden go quiet with dark faces worries me every time.

                                DON'T watch stoned

Getting a bit frustrated with Death Note. Episode 18.

Do you think we're ever going to get back to Light knowing he's Kira? There's no tension now that he genuinely believes himself and L doesn't appear so cunning anymore. The added element of this business group is a bit confusing, I'm gonna watch again before I can comment on that.

Anyone seen Brother, Dear Brother? It's old but still only around in fansub form (afaik). I'm only up to episode 5 but I'm already liking it's darker image of girls schools.
