I wouldn't trust it personally, either. Just ask for a bank transfer and thats it.

Here's an eBay auction for Valkyria Chronicles that amused me - http://cgi.ebay.com/Valkyria-Chronic...3A2%7C294%3A50

Pah! I won an auction for a load of Battle Royale books 4 days ago and paid instantly. Today the seller emailed me asking for a further £6 as he "realized how heavy they were." Not amused at all. Basically told him to follow through or its bannage and that I would only pay him the £6 extra if he reduced the price of the books by £8.
Seriously, the spanners on ebay.

I sympathise. I've never had that happen but if the guy has quoted a specific P&P price on his main listing he is contractually obliged to honour it. But getting them to honour it is another matter. I'm sure scammers use this method to lever more money out of buyers but I suspect it's more often down to laziness. The idiots just didn't check before listing what it cost to deliver the parcel and expect the buyer to pay for their slackness. Bad form..

Well, yeah but its also ebay trying to get everyone to offer free P+P on stuff like books and DVDs etc. The most you are allowed to put for P+P for books is ?2.75 so a bundle of 15 books, which is what I bought, will obviously cost a lot more.
A savvy seller would promote the fact the P+P is free as people surely take P+P into account anyway.
Smart move on ebay's part as it stops people selling stuff for ?1 with ?29 postage!!

personally i dont get whats different for the buyer
if an item is worth ?30 and the seller has it listed for ?1 with ?29 postage or ?29 with ?1 postage whats the difference?
the buyer isnt getting ripped off because the seller is trying to avoid the amazingly high ebay fees
the only way i can see it being a problem if the item goes missing in the mail, but hopefully the seller will be straightforward enough to replace or send a full refund
using Paypal or eBay as a mediary costs you at least ?15 flat rate so if the item is worth less or equal to that there is no point involving them
recently i sold some stuff on eBay and they took close to 15% with eBay and paypal fees, i remember when it used to be fun to sell on there, now they're this monster and they dont care anymore, they are starting to lose touch with the common buyer/seller and are more interested in the big chains using them to sell stuff

15% and you complain!!!! I've sold about 200 CDs, games and books via the Amazon Marketplace over the last 4 years and their average cut on those sort of items has always been around the 20% - 25% mark. It can sometimes be even more on low value, higher postage goods where their pre-set postage allowance bears absolutely relation to the actual cost.

i wont be using Amazon Market place
to make an analargy
An Estate agent takes around 2.5% - 4% of the value of your home when it sells, but they do alot of leg work and i think they generally earn their money with what they offer
Now if eBay listed the items for you, i would be happy with anything 15% related, but they do nothing, all they offer is a facility to sell items, which in itself does seem like thats worth 15% of your items and since there is no competition it will only increase
again on my soapbox with regards to high postage, if a buyer comes along and notices something for ?1 which he/she thinks is worth ?30, but doesnt notice the postage costs then he/she is an idiot
i dont do it, my postage prices are pretty decent so its not like i'm trying to defend it, but i dont see the harm in it
but its against eBay rules since fees are being circumvented
