Great win for Lewis, especially as I had a 10 quid bet on him to get pole and to win the race. Alonso was ace, but for the excitement of the championship I would have preffered him to have not finished.

Sid Watkins, F1's first and greatest Doctor and champion of saftey for the sport has died.

Professor Sid Watkins, who was at the forefront of Formula 1 safety for more than 30 years, dies at the age of 84.

A great interview with the man himself.

Great man indeed, if you go the BBC sport website or i player you can watch the disturbing yet brilliant Grand Prix: The Killer Years. I watched most of it with my mouth open aghast at the terror of F1 until only a few years ago.

Now confirmed that Lewis is leaving McLaren for Merc. Perez is off to McLaren and Michael is currently without a seat.

Good for Perez but in their current form I can't see Merc being good for Lewis, though I can't see Ross Brawn taking **** from him like Witmarsh did.

Perhaps the most shocking thing of all is that Eddie Jordan was right.

I'm genuinely amazed he's done this.
Are Mercedes going to provide McLaren with sub-standard engines to their own cars next year or something?
He obviously thinks he'll get more hammer out of it than Schumi and Nico.
I'll be interested to see how Perez goes too - he's driven some good races no doubt but the pressure will be much greater in a top 3 team. I hope he doesn't end up as ineffective as Massa has become.

I'll be interested to see what tactics Perez employs at McLaren. Hopefully he won't be doing the old 'run for ages on the hardest available compound' thing he's so fond of at Sauber.

Hamilton must not want to win any more world championships.

It'll all change in 2014 with the new regs. Meanwhile Lewis can build the ground through 2013 with the new team (and enjoy the extra cash). He was clearly becoming disgruntled at McLaren, so continuing there would have become more and more untenable.

Michael has announced he is off at the end of the year. No surprise really.... except that Jordan was right twice in a row.

Here's a good interview with Hamilton for his reasons for leaving McLaren.

Just how good is Jason Plato in the BTCC? Starts in twentieth place in the last race at Silverstone today, due to a technical problem in the previous round, and he wins the thing by a country mile. Great entertainment from the ITV4 coverage of the meet all day. Motor sport at its best. The final three rounds at Brands Hatch in two weeks are going to be exciting whatever happens.

He should have won all three races as you say. Always a close finish in the championship.

Well done to Kobayashi in the F1 today. Great result at his home GP.

I was there and it was astonishing to watch ... don't know how he does it sometimes .. crazy stuff .. Matt Jackson also deserves a mention as he was on top form as well.

Lewis Hamilton is having a hissy fit on Twitter at the mo....

"Just noticed @jensonbutton unfollowed, thats a shame. After 3 years as teammates, I thought we respected one another but clearly he doesn't."

The big girls blouse I just cant warm to him...
My favourite part of todays race was the crowd cheering " KAM-U-I KAM-U-I"

Talking of hissy fits Matt Neal at the BTCC had an awful day so it was perhaps understandable but when asked about Jason Plato's astonishing performance he started bleating on about his and GS's Hondas boost being unfairly limited as some sort of explanation. JP drove thought the whole field guy, just get over it. The the main explanation is that he wasn't carrying any ballast, the car was set up perfectly and, of course, he is a great driver. It is also not as though he hasn't done that sort of thing before in other vehicles in previous seasons.

I'd say that JP is also driving much cleaner ie. less bullyingly aggressive this season than any other since I've been watching the BTCC and yet he's still winning.

I do have a feeling he is not going to win the BTCC this year. He really needs GS not to finish or at least not score big points in at least one, preferably two, of the remaining three rounds and himself win/podium in two as well. That's a big ask but stranger things have happened.

The BTCC yesterday was awesome, loved every second. Plato from 20th to 1st was the drive of the season.
