I never buy from Sweat Shop as JJB always have 'em cheaper Sports Feet do a foot analysis if there is one by you, might be useful. I can't remember if its free or not. I think it is if you're a gym member, I've never paid for one anyway.

Also, best running footwear appears to be nothing at all but it takes a long time to develop feet suited to running barefoot!

Forget JJB if you want virginrunner or wiggle are both OK but JJB is just a joke, no offence, I did meet on guy in there once who knew his sh!t but he had a pained expression on his face from just being in the store its the gaming equivalent of geeting your stuff from HMV ok for the basic stuff but you pay more for it and its mainstream all the way.

IMHO that barefeet stuff is rubbish, obviously it may work for you so feel free to tell me to shut the fcuk up but, I dont buy it, I did I tried so Nike Free 5.0 which were comfortable but they just dont do the same job as a pair of decent runners. I understand the whole your feet evolved over generations to do the best job possible and if they needed shocks or air bags in they would have developed them naturally but my feet havent developed to compensate for over pronation and running 26.2 miles in 3hours, if i even tried it in bare feet even on the perfect surface my knees would be crippled and it would be game over, just my opinion as I say though.

Hey, I never said go talk to people in JJB Find out what you want, go to JJB to buy it at half the price.

And no, I don't run barefoot either. Just something I read. In the same book (title escapes me...), the Doctor fella who wrote it came to the conclusion Nike produce the best all round running shoes too! I over-pronate but I feel if you were to run barefoot your body would quickly compensate with the appropriate training. That's how it works I used to get pain down my leg and was told it was due to my running style. That hasn't changed but the muscle groups around the area of pain have got stronger with continued training = no more pain. I like it as I've gradually got much faster overall.

Good time though man, that's great. Not done a full-length marathon myself, just half. You up for a bit of Windsor?

Thanks, actually 3hrs is the aim, did london this year and did 3.35, was heading for 3.10, my training had been good, I cruised the MK half in 1.29 as a training run and was full of confidence but on the day the wheels totally fell off and I struggled badly with hip and hamstring. Know what you mean about the muscles developing last year as I built up the training
the quads pulled my knee out a line, I thought i had patella tendonitus got some advice though and did some static squats built up the muscle groups on the inside of the thighs and sorted it out in a couple of weeks.

Windsor's on the 24th Sept isnt it, I'm doing Notts on the 10th so no way i'll be fit! what time you going for at Windsor some of my mates did last years and said it was qucik? Am hoping for anything sub 3.15 in Notts, have had a few niggles that have knocked training badly, I upped the mileage from 40 to 65 miles a week, got tired and tripped badly couldnt walk for a week or run for 3, since then ive gone over on it twice more and am being really careful now as I dont want to hobble 26.2 miles, done no real speed work just done lots of endurance stuff.

If your down that way Reading isnt a bad half and Milton Keynes has a good half as well. So are you planning on a full?

Anybody know what is the 'healthy' weight a 30 year old 6 foot male should be? Is there a chart linky around here somewhere?

            Thanks

              Anywhere between 10 stone and 14 I'd say. (I'm 10.5 and a skinny rake, with virtually no-fat).
14 would be pretty large build with a fair bit of muscle.

Its diff depends where you look but an average ideal weight would be between 12 and 13 stone

The most interesting Ideal Weight calculator on the internet.

I'm 5'11" and I'm close to 12 and a half stone. According to that calculator I'm a few pounds short of the medical recommendation, but at the moment I'm trading fat for muscle, so it depends on what kind of build you want.

Oof, yeah man. Injuries are a bugger. I've pulled my hamstring this week cycling. I should rest it but I've been off a couple of days so need to try running on it. Fast healer.

Yep, 24th it is. I signed up last year but got really ill so had to put it off and did other events including Reading. Quite slow to be honest; I hit the 2 hour mark pretty much dead, I didn't put enough into the training but I've been doing loads this year (after I did train for Windsor properly... sigh) so hopefully, it'll be sub-2 hours, aiming for 1:45. It's a tough course though, quite a varied course with lots of different gradients. The course is counter-clockwise this year so a little easier with most the hills down hill at the beginning. I've not run the course this year yet although the training does take me there over the next few weeks so it's all good. It's a great place to run around.

I'd like to do a full at some point in my life, maybe. It's difficult to do now as I compete in other events and the running is just a hobby. Maybe when I can comfortable do 1:30, then I'll go the full nine-yards, erm, 26 miles

spagmasterswift -- yes, really. Anywhere between 11-18% body fat, total weight 12-14 stone.

im depressed now, according to that web site im 11lb overweight and 1% over on the bmi thingy ~ (im 6 foot 4 weighing 210 lbs, and tbh i reckon i look skinny)

Please, no-one should pay those things any attention. They're the kind of thing the NHS had in text books 20 years ago.

There are much better ways to find out if you're over-weight, the first of which is being honest with yourself. If you look podgy and soft, you're over-weight. If your arms are 12", you're probably underweight. Nothing scientific there at all.

We're all different shapes, sizes, and builds. I work with some average height guys who are 16 stone. According to those charts they'd be obese, but infact they're rock solid muscular guys who can bench twice their bodyweight.

Take Mr Ooops for example. 6'4", 15 stone, and he's meant to be only 14? Come on, it depends on your bone structure as much as anything. There are no variations there for Ectomorphs, Endos, or Mesos.

Basically it's a bit of fun, hate to see people getting depressed about it

Marklar is correct, 11%-18% bodyfat is considered "Average", but even a little more won't look that bad if you've got some muscle under it.

If anyone is seriously after a bodyfat measurement, you can pick up some calipers for ?15 or so. Accuracy tends to be with a few percent either way, which isn't too bad.

I hear ya, but as I'm weighing in at 17 and a half stone I'm aiming to get down to 14 at some stage, although realistically I'd be happy to make it to 15 as my frame is pretty large, I have a huge rib cage and it is true you can be big boned!!

17 and a half stone though I felt like crying when the scales revealed that nasty truth

The lowest I've been is 12 stone and that was when I got back from travelling around South America (6 years ago). I had practically no muscle on me and certainly no fat. Was pretty weird.

Mate, don't get depressed about your weight! I used to be the same way, hovering around 17 stone of LARD. Weight made me depressed, depression made me confort eat, and that's not going to help any.

If I can lose that weight, anyone can. A small change here and there and you'll lose a stone before you know it.

To start with, I cut out fast food - pizzas and burgers had to go. That small change (and I'd still have fast food maybe once a month), with zero exercise, and I was down to around 16 stone in well under a year.

Then it was time to make more changes; crisps were replaced with corn snacks, limited the number of cheese sarnies, and limited chocolate. Before long I was 15 1/2 stone.

Then I got back to the gym. Around last November I was somewhere around 12 1/4 stone, but that was too thin (people thought I was ill). I'm now a very healthy looking 88kg -> which makes me heavy according to that site above!

If I can do it, anyone can
