Well had a very health day yesterday and off to the gym tonight so looks like I'm off too a good start and more importantly I want it!

I'm on a self imposed lift ban, every little helps right?

Is drinking 1,5L of water while I'm at work a good or a bad move? Too much? Too little?

Sounds fine. Your pee should be the arbitor - clear = too much, yellow = too little, straw = good.

Should make an FAQ in the first post of this thread

2L a day is normal guideline (but recipher's method above is better). This does not include caffeinated drinks or other diarhetics like alcohol. If you drink these then as a general rule you need to top up with the same amount of water, so a cup of tea needs another cup of water afterwards. Pint of beer needs another glass of water

People that drink lots of cups of tea and coffee at work but no water are constantly dehydrated which in turn makes them tired. They counteract this by drinking more coffee, which works to some extent for the hour the stimulant is in the system, but isn't tackling the root cause of why they are tired. If everyone in all-day meetings/conferences switched to water, there'd be far more people alert.

Sorry but this isn't true at all. They are still getting a net benefit of water. Caffeine is a diuretic but it isn't present in large enough quantities in tea or coffee to make you dehydrated. Any hypothetical dehydration office scenario is because they're not drinking enough. They may lack focus etc. because they're hopped up on caffeine.

Tea dehydrating you etc. is just an urban myth and some bods even carried out research recently to disprove it once and for all:

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

The FSA/NHS suggest drinking '6-8' glasses of water per day, roughly 1.2 litres. When exercising a litre per hour on top of this amount, more during hot weather.

If you looking for muscle, aim for around 4-5l of water a day.

                  Yo new recruit here.

I've always been a fit and healthy type guy.
                  Don't smoke/drink ever.
Last year I picked up/discovered an annoying long term problem w/ the joints in my feet. But the doc x-ray'd it and said it was all ok.

well whatever, think Il get a second opinion this month.
Following that I am looking to re-take up Thai Boxing at the end of this month/start of Feb and I'm going to start going back to the gym more regularly. Right now I am blasting out a quick 4 x 50 press ups while listening to the Ramones.

                  The end.

Right. Thats the last socially required drinking session (my birthday) over and done with. And the last of the homebrew drunk.

31 now. With a slighly wider midriff than when I was 30. This trend must be reversed.

I've been diabolically lazy and alcoholic over the last few months save for a few feeble attempts to get going again. But really. I must. I can still run 3 miles just about ok but at a pathetic pace.

Hound me guys, hound me, shout at me, give me abuse. I want an online sergeant major in my face. Tomorrow lunchtime - run. Thursday evening gym. Saturday - run + gym.

Thats the schedule. Ask me how I've got on!

Edit: As a motivational thing to myself I'm booking a holiday on payday. Its to the Galapagos Islands and round south america for 3 three weeks. I can only afford it without the credit card if I get back to my old ways of not drinking constantly. I'm doping the old stick and carrot routine

Another way to get motivated is to check out the number of middle-aged men with massive guts, that have obviously let themselves go. Not me. Never.

Yeh thats a good one! I shall never let myself get like that, Now that I've started the gym and totally obsessed with it at the age of 20, I imagine it will be my way of life until I die so I should always be fit, healthy and happy.

170lb chest press which isn't so bad until you think in kg There's muscle growth (or maybe fat loss, possibly both) on my back/shoulders that I hadn't noticed before. Someone asked what I was doing when I'm just a skinny f**k.

I didn't ride to work though this morning. Got about 2-3 miles down the road and I was still freezing my arse off, my bones felt cold (if you know what I mean) even with all the crazy **** I was wearing only I was sweating like a pig in an effort to get warm! Didn't work so I just came back home, showered and got in the car. I could still feel how cold I was by mid-morning too. Maybe if the distance was shorter I would have tried it on but as it is, 23 miles, I didn't fancy my chances.
