not cheap at 203 quid ....

defo wearing knee and elbow protection at a minimum from now on

A friend has that - it's wearable for singletrack riding although might get a bit hot in the summer. (from here: chainreaction). 203 isn't that much really for something of that quality. Alternatively ebay has loads of armour going cheap - probably all crashed but I got my leg and arm stuff off there for pennies - just needed a wash I wouldn't get a second hand helmet though.

I was feeling pretty grotty today. Cold and sore throat. Decided to stick it to the cold and went for a long run. Glad I did.

8.7miles. 1hr2m. 7.08min/mile. 977cal. Faster than ever before by 2 minutes! Even better was that I felt I could go even quicker but my knee is playing up from where I fell on it a few weeks ago, so I didn't want to aggrevate it too much.

        Oh and that's off road.

Please could I have some sound advice....

I'm dieting and exercising (again!) I'm in horrible condition tbh.

With my diet...I can eat proper and balanced...smaller portions and often. Breakfast. Lunch and tea/dinner.

Say for instance, I'm up early at 7am, I have breakfast - fine. Lunch - fine. Tea fine. But..if I stay awake until anything around 4am (which is quite regular...I struggle..cereal or something similar, but I can't control that urge after that.

Always fine from anything around 7 am until 1-2am...but for the last few hours before bed..I really struggle.

I'm fine with exercise..its that last part of the day of over eating...I've never asked before...so any advice is really really appreciated

Get a small notepad and pen. Carry it with you everywhere.
Tell yourself that before eating anything you will write what you are about to eat in the book.
            Packet of crisps
            Bowl of cereal
Roast chick, carrots, peas, potatoes, leeks
i.e. every single item of food that passes your lips must have been written in the book first.

Or in your mobile phone notes if you prefer.

Just dipped under 40 minutes for the first time ever for a 10k. Only went out for a jog and ended up going a little quicker than anticipated.

If you are up for that long you are no sleeping enough. At least 8 hrs a night, regular.

Try exercising in the morning then have lunch then go out again before your tea.

No brinking beer either! It's fully loaded with carbs. Whack up your protein intake - milk, eggs etc.

Awesome time Charles. I've been outof running for a while as I knacked my foot for acouple ofmonths - tendon issue. Just about sorted now so back to starting up slowly to try to prevent it going again.

Thank You Charles and DS. For what its worth, i'm still going. I'm planning to buy a bike (cycle this week)

I've been looking again, loads of places where I am to cycle, have a break for views/drink...then carry on.

OK, I need to get fit (or at least get "not UNfit"). I have my weight pretty much under control, but I sit at a desk all day and can hardly run 90 seconds without losing my breath. I'm very inactive, and honestly, who can blame me in this climate (see my location)...

Must find ways to lose weight at home... it's OK going for a run now and then during summer but come winter you'd have to tazer me to get me to go out in that cold!

Do you have a bike? Do you like watching TV?

Buy a turbo trainer and get a great TV series on DVD and only allow yourself to watch it while you are pedalling. I'm on season five of Alias

I'm, like, the skinniest guy ever... and nothing ever works. Even waiting years to gain weight with age didn't work, at all. Any suggestions?

Do you want to get muscle? Or run a 10k fast. They are pretty much incompatible without turning it into your life.
If you want muscle, it's a slow laborious process which will be even slower if you are naturally skinny.
If you want to run a 10k fast, you will find it a little easier given your physique.

Got a bit of a cold thing going on so I have been mooching about the house the past few days not doing much so I just HAD to get out and do something today.
Cleaned up the old bike as it was cobwebbed and quite dirty considering it was in a shed and got out for a quick ride round the village. Usually for fitness I go for a run late at night but biking is good enough for the cardio considering I don't feel great enough to run.
So yeah, felt good to get out and get a sweat on. It was so spontaneous I didn't bother changing into shorts so I biked about in my jeans...it got sweaty indeed.
Bike is proper knackered though - rusted chain and gears meant it keeps clicking and grinding the whole time but at least the thing stayed together
