      Rocball Salvages VB Side-Out

      C V R (Congratulations Volleyball ? Rallypoint) 2/8/03

I just read where the NFHS Volleyball Rules Committee, U.S.A. has mandated that High Schools will play volleyball with rallypoint point scoring by year 2004/05. This is appropriate. No one, FIVB included, seemed to be able to get the side-out scoring system worked up to the level of competition needed to improve its player's athletic recognition, or generate more spectator activity.

Do international salvage rules apply to abandoned sports systems? Volleyball's side-out scoring system is fertile with absent objectives. As the founder of Rocball, I would be more than happy to claim salvage rights on W.G. Morgan's side-out rules of play for volleyball.

Morgan's game of volleyball is an excellent resource for developing a balanced offensive and defensive team net sport, where the team in service (offense), has the scoring advantage, and the receiving team (defense), competes for the service teams competitive advantages.

And, basically, it's the side-out system of scoring that determines which team has the game winning advantages. This is the sport's balance of challenges: Its DNA code

So ! Thanks to the powers that be for their failure to be able to work with volleyball's side-out system of scoring, and for their official adoption of the rallypoint system of scoring.

      Best regards,

      Jim Feger (edited for 2005)

Mwaliyas still undefeated after juicing out B-n-S

        By Shan Seman
        Reporter / Saipan Tribune

        Thursday, December 01, 2005

Defending champion Mwaliyas kept its perfect record intact in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League, and did so courtesy of a 63-40 juice out victory over B-n-S Tuesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

With the win, Mwaliyas remains a game ahead of the Lagooners and Ochobu for the top spot with a 4-0 win-loss card, while the loss dropped B-n-S into a two-way tie with Black Magic in fourth place with a 2-2 record.

The B-n-S players actually got off to the start they wanted as they took the early. Alex Laniyo smacked the ball with all his might and sent it cruising into the goal, Lori Taisakan made good on an ace, and B-n-S shocked the defending champions by taking the first set, 15-11.

B-n-S, however, was not able to maintain momentum as Mwaliyas came back with a fury in the second set. The team played defense like there was no tomorrow and limited the normally high-scoring B-n-S crew to just three points while piling up 15 points for the win and a 26-18 lead in the overall tally.

B-n-S finally broke out of their scoring slump in the third set. The two teams were neck and neck and were tied at 10-10 when Mwaliyas kicked into turbo mode and strolled away for an 18-10 win. Much to Mwaliyas' advantage was another goal from Yamada.

By then, Mwaliyas bettered its chances of extending their win streak as they held a 44-28 lead heading into the final set of regulation.

B-n-S, however, was determined to force o-kon and fought hard in the fourth set, but was not to keep pace with Mwaliyas as Ken Tanzawa pounded away for a couple of kees, Yamada knocked in an ace, and Pedro Iguel zoomed a goal for the 19-12 clincher.

Yamada was the game's heavy hitter as he showcased his power with 16 points courtesy of two aces, three kees, and two goals.Laniyo led B-n-S with seven points on an ace, a kee, and a goal. League scoring leaders Darrel Roligat of Mwaliyas and Myron Laniyo of B-n-S each had six points apiece.

Just For Fun cruising against sister team

          By Shan Seman
          Reporter / Saipan

          Friday, December 02, 2005

Just For Fun is on the verge of streaking into the win column after having its way against sister-team Caropinos in yesterday?s action in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League.

Only two sets were completed and the rest of regulation will be played out today, with Just For Fun heading into the bout with a comfortable 32-2 lead.

Each team managed to suit up just four players, but instead of having an evenly fought bout, Just For Fun leaned on an impressive performance by veteran Dennis Camacho to pull away.

Camacho was on fire as he opened his day by knocking down a goal to spearhead a 7-0 run by Just For Fun to start off the first set.

The Caropinos had no response as they continued to struggle offensively, and Camacho pounded away again for another goal before the team closed out the set with a shut out, 16-0.

The Caropinos finally got some points on the board in the second set but were still outclassed as the Just For Fun were itching to get their first win and continued to dominate. Camacho continued to hit like there was no tomorrow and recorded his third goal of the match, Kevin Aldan made good on a xunk, and Just For Fun cruised to a 16-2 victory.

The teams started on their third set, which was at 6-2 in favor of Just For Fun when time expired. Amazingly, Camacho found the goal for the fourth time. Matthew Iguel came through with an ace for Caropinos, but Just For Fun connected on a xunk and elected to subtract two points from their opponents.

Camacho currently leads the game with an ace, a xunk, and four goals for 16 points.

So far, four aces, four xunks, and four goals have been scored in the game.

Nail-biting finish expected in Ochobu-Black Magic bout

            By Shan Seman
            Reporter

            Tuesday, December 06, 2005

The stage is set for a thrilling end as Black Magic and Ochobu have one more set left in regulation with the two teams separated by just one point in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The two teams were neck and neck in the opening set yesterday, with two key hits late in the set being the only difference in lifting Black Magic to a 16-12 victory.

The Black Magic wizards continued to work their magic to their favor and put up a better charge in the second set to increase their lead.

Dior Jones connected for a goal shortly after making good on a serve for a xunk, and Black Magic turned their four-point advantage into a 12-point spread, 31-19, in the overall points tally courtesy of a 15-7 win.

Ochobu, however, managed to find the antidote to Black Magic's run and responded with a furious run in the third set to pull close and eventually take the lead.

Veteran David Tisa scored nine consecutive points, bruising the ball for two aces and a goal in the process, while the entire team pulled together on defense and used their perfect communication to stun Black Magic for a lopsided 16-3 win.

With that, Ochobu turned the match around and led 35-34.

The fourth set will be played today.

Tisa leads Ochobu with nine points on three aces and a goal, while Jones leads Black Magic with seven points on a xunk, a kee, and a goal.

Rocball creator James Feger also disclosed that the bout between Just For Fun and Caropinos will also be completed today.

The two teams completed two sets on last Thursday, with Just For Fun holding a comfortable 32-2 lead.

Just For Fun posted a 16-0 shut out win in the first set and followed with another strong charge for a 16-2 win in the second set.

Just For Fun's Dennis Camacho currently leads the game with an ace, a xunk, and four goals for 16 points.

Ochobu on a roll in Rocball

              By Roselyn B. Monroyo
              Variety News Staff

Ochobu claimed its fourth consecutive win after a 60-53 victory in the first set o-kon against the Black Magic in the World Organized Rocball High School League yesterday.

Ochobu has yet to drop a game since losing its debut match against the Lagooners in October.

The win moved Ochobu into solo second place in the team standings behind the league-leading Mwaliyas, who have a perfect 4-0 slate.

The Black Magic absorbed their third defeat in five games. Actually Black Magic had a chance to steal the game, but they failed to get enough winning margin in the fourth set to score a juice out victory.

In Rocball rules, a team that prevails in the fourth set can only win the game provided it has the lead after the four regular sets.

In the Black Magic?s case, they won the fourth set, 15-14, but the score was tied at 49-all at the end of the regulation, forcing the game into a one-set overtime.

In the first set o-kon, Ochobu, behind David Tisa, took an 11-4 victory to steal the match.Tisa was the game?s heavy hitter with 17 points. He had four kees, three aces and a goal.

Dior Jones paced the Black Magic with 15 markers on three kees, two aces, a xunx and a goal.

Ichnis Kapwich of Ochobu was the other player who nailed a goal. He drilled the third goal of the game in the fourth set. And, Kapwich's goal brought Ochobu from two points behind in the fourth set to a one point lead. Black Magic regained the lead, but not by enough points to juice out and prevent the game going into overtime.

The Black Magic started off hot and heavy, winning the opening set, 16-12 and had a 12-point lead after two sets as they claimed the second set,
              15-7.

But, Ochobu bounced back in the third set with a 16-3 rout and lost by only a point in the fourth set, 14-15, to tie the score 49 t0 49 and send the game into overtime.

Just For Fun breaks into win column

                By Shan Seman
                Reporter / Saipan Tribune

                Thursday, December 08, 2005

Just For Fun finally broke into the win column after holding off a strong charge from sister-team Caropinos in yesterday?s World Organized Rocball High School League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The two teams were finally able to resume their bout after last seeing each other Thursday.

Just For Fun entered the court with a comfortable 32-2 lead after dominating the first two sets, but a different day featured a different push as the Caropinos came out slugging and gave Just For Fun a run before falling, 12-16. As a result, Just For Fun headed into the final set of regulation with a 48-14 lead.

Caropinos, however, still had a shot as in Rocball rules, the team leading the match heading into the fourth set must win the set to close out the bout.

Knowing well that their hopes were still alive, the Caropinos put up a furious charge and prevented Just For Fun from juicing out with a 17-7 victory, sending the game into o-kon.

Caropinos still had a hefty challenge ahead of them as they needed to win two overtime sets to complete the comeback, and was on the right track and streaking to a 12-7 win in the first set.

Unfortunately, their luck ran out as Just For Fun turned things around and silenced their opponents for an 11-0 shutout capped by an ace by Dennis Camacho to clinch the win.

Camacho finished as the game?s heavy hitter with 26 points after blasting away for five aces, two xunks, and four goals, while Matthew Iguel pace the Caropinos with 12 points on five aces and a xunk.

THE Mwaliyas kept their unbeaten record with a juice out win against the Lagooners, 59-51, in the 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League last Friday at the Marianas High School Gym.

Pedro Iguel led the Mwaliyas? fifth victory in as many games, as he provided the needed points in the crucial third set.8)

The first two sets of the match and the early part of the third were played last Thursday with the Lagooners leading, 34-33.

The Mwaliyas Darrel Roligat served with the resumption of play, while Iguel converted four aces and nailed a goal in the continuation of the third set to steal the lead.

After the Mwaliyas 17-14 victory in the third set, they held a slim 42-41 lead, entering the fourth set.

The Mwaliyas kept their momentum in the fourth, while the Lagooners failed to regain their bearings giving the former a 17-10 victory.

The win broke the Lagooners two-game winning streak and dropped them to a 3-2 record.

                        Laniyo gets Master Blaster status

                        By Shan Seman
                        Reporter

                        Saturday, December 17, 2005

Veteran smacker Myron Laniyo was upgraded to Master Blaster status after knocking in a jam in B-n-S' 70-45 victory over Caropinos yesterday in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League at the Marianas High School.

Laniyo had scored in every other category except for the jam heading into the bout, and by the time he stepped off the court, became the season's second member after going off for a whopping 26 points to lead his team to victory. The other member of the elite cast is Shane Yamada of defending champion Mwaliyas.

Aside from the jam, Laniyo pounded away for three aces, eight kees, a goal in the final game of round five.

Laniyo and company had a tough start as the Caropinos, comprised of rookie players, proved that they are improving and were on verge of staging a first set upset before B-n-S pulled the right strings for a 16-14 victory.

The Caropinos' players continued to fight and give B-n-S a run for their money, but still weren't able to get over the hill as B-n-S took the second set, 18-12, and stretched their lead to eight points, 34-26, in the overall tally.

The Caropinos then cooled off and Laniyo's troops took advantage, gunning away for an easy 17-8 victory.

With their backs against the wall and still having a chance to force o-kon, the Caropinos bounced back for a stronger fourth set charge, but didn't have the needed fuel to stay alive as B-n-S clinched the win with a 19-11 win.

Matthew Iguel and Vince Teregeyo led Caropinos with seen and six points, with Igual getting two aces and a goal and Teregeyo hitting three kees.

And, although the Caropinos are winless, these young guns are fearless competitors.ft:

Laniyo still ahead in Rocball scoring

B-n-S veteran Myron Laniyo continues to have a memorable season and remains on top of the scoring department in the 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League.

Through five games, Laniyo has recorded a whopping 70 points, and is the key reason B-n-S is in a two-way tie with the Lagooners in third place with a 3-2 win-loss record.

Laniyo was just recently upgraded to Master Blaster status after getting a jam in B-n-S' bout against the Caropinos last week. The jam was the only category Laniyo needed to become Master Blaster again as he had already scored aces, xunks, kees, and goals earlier in the season.

A player earns Master Blaster status when he or she scores in each of the five categories.

In all, Laniyo has a jam, 13 aces, two xunks, 18 kees, and a goal.

Right behind Laniyo is Shane Yamada of defending champion Mwaliyas, who sits just three points back with 67 markers.

Yamada's addition to the Mwaliyas roster, he played on a different team last season, has served as a huge boost in Mwaliyas' campaign for two-straight titles as he has connected for a jam, 11 aces, three xunks, 10 kees, and six goals, helping his team remain undefeated with a 5-0 record.

Ochobu's David Tisa is currently third on the list with 45 points after knocking in eight aces, a xunk, nine kees, and three goals, but his presence on the court seems to be the main ingredient for success as his team's balanced attack results in a second-best 4-1 record.

Just For Fun's Dennis Camacho follows with seven aces, two xunks, five kees, and five goals for 43 points. After dropping their first three games, Camacho and company have stormed back and won two straight for a 2-3 record.

For his part, Tito Francisco remains on the heavy hitter list with 40 points on 10 aces, seven kees, and two goals, while Dior Jones of Black Magic follows with 11 aces, a xunk, four kees, and two goals for 38 points.

Matthew Iguel of the Caropinos is next with 35 points on 10 aces, a xunk, two kees, and three goals, while Darrel Moteisou of Malat rounds up the leaders with 33 points on 11 aces, two xunks, two kees, and a goal.

Also, Laniyo's numbers in the ace and kee categories are league best, as is Yamada's six goals. Gary Phillips of the Lagooners currently leads the Xunk Master category with five.

Defending champion Mwaliyas continues to have a remarkable season after notching its sixth straight victory in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League.

Comprised of veterans of the Rocball court, Mwaliyas kept its perfect record intact after stumping Malat in o-kon yesterday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The team came ready to play and dominated the opening set en route to a 16-7 victory.

Unfortunately for Malat, Pedro Iguel, Shane Yamada, and the rest of the Mwaliyas smackers were just getting started as they came out stronger in the second set and blanked their opponents. Iguel punched in a goal that made it 11-0, and it was cruise control from there as the team saw their lead balloon with a 16-0 victory.

As a result of the skunk, Mwaliyas headed into the third set with a comfortable 32-7 lead.

Showing the warriors in them, the Malat players remained determined and continued to fight despite their big deficit. Jordan Atkinson came up huge for Malat and scored big points to spearhead a comeback charge that pushed Malat to a 16-10 victory.

Malat, however, was still down by 19 points, 23-42, and was in a must win situation in order to stay in contention and force overtime.

Knowing they had to win, Malat came through in the clutch and dominated the fourth set to keep their hopes alive. Mwaliyas, known for its high scoring play, was out of rhythm in the set and only managed to score four points, while giving Malat 16 points, resulting in the match heading into o-kon.

Mwaliyas' strong play in the first two sets, however, became key as the team needed to win only one set in o-kon while Malat had to win two sets because Mwaliyas still led, 46-36, after regulation.

Itching to get the game over with, Mwaliyas quickly put an end to Malat' upset hopes with one hit that stunned their opponents.

Malat had advantage after winning the coin toss and getting first serve. Atkinson was successful in getting his serve over the net, however, it was bumped by Iguel, who made a high pass to Darrel Roligat.

Roligat, who was on the backcourt at the time playing as goalie, took some running steps, timed the ball perfectly, and slammed in a goal that ended the game.

O-kon sets are won by the team that reaches 10 points first or scores a goal.

Ken Tanzawa was the game's heavy hitter and led Mwaliyas with 14 points after connecting for five aces, a xunk, and a kee, while Yamada supported with 12 points on four aces and two kees.

Atkinson led Malat with 10 points courtesy of two aces and three kees.
